Default Need recommendations for Sling Swivels to fit a Leather Military Figure 8 Sling.

I have a set of 1.25" sling swivels that I thought were BlackHawk. One might be Blackhawk and one might be Uncle Mikes. These suckers are really old but in pristine condition. Kinda bummed they're not going to work. But that is life.

Sadly one of the two is too narrow to slip over the frog on my military sling. It is also too narrow to let two thicknesses of the leather sling through. So it is just not going to work for me. Trying to force it to work is going to damage my sling. So just not worth it. Best to buy new swivels.

Except, I want to make sure the new ones fit. And I don't want to try and go to a gun store with my sling opening their retail packages making it so they couldn't sell their pretty packaged swivels as new. They are not going to allow that. And I would feel like a jerk doing so.

So who has used what with this kind of sling?

They will be bolted onto a Remington 700's sling swivels.

Thanks much.

I have come across Uncle Mikes that couldn't fit the frogs of a 1907 sling, but kind of unusual to put two straps through the swivel. Even a "no pulse" configuration doesn't double up the sling in the swivel.

Most shooters I know freak-out when I tell them how much the sling & sling swivels cost on my 700 that fell overboard during a boating incident.

Just out of curiosity, what the heck is a "Military figure 8 sling"? Unless you are calling 1907 slings by that name? If so, place the narrow swivel at the front since you don't need to pass the frog through it.

Correct. That's what I'll end up doing. For storage wanted the long strap to be able to wrap around and go through it twice. But it's not really necessary.

Uncle Mikes has different size loops for both the 1" and 1 1/4" swivels, with different part numbers. Some are wider or deeper than others.

Sorry but if you want to get this right you are going to have to go to a gun store to look at them and figure out which part number is going to work for you. This is what I do because I hate buying stuff that doesn't work right and I really don't care if I have to open a package to find out and any counter person who won't let you doesn't get the sale. Plenty of places to buy Sling Swivels, even Walmart sells them.

Also what "Smoothy" said above. A suggestion might be to either find an NRA Match Shooter or get on the Internet and down load the instructions for rigging a 1907 Sling. There is about 2 or 3 ways that I know of but none run two layers of the sling thru a swivel.

There is alot more to using a Military Sling than using it as a Carry Strap and going to an NRA Military Rifle Shoot (usually held on the 5th Sunday of a month like this September) is a good way to learn how to use these things correctly.

it will make you a better shooter.

I was trying to cinch it down as tight as it would go for storage in a locker. Getting any excess material out of the way.

I use the Large 2" Pretzel Style Paper clips to hold my slings tight when in the case. They work really well for this and don't cost much.

I've used velcro belt keepers and wire wraps in the past. I tend to lose them however. For my nylon slings I am using rubber bands. But those disconnect with push button swivels so it's easier to get the rubber bands off an on than on a sling like this.

Get the frogs (hooks) close together and then "cinch" the sling tight. No need to wrap anything twice.

I use Winchester QD 1-1/4" swivels on all my rifles.

Like'em because they are rugged, inexpensive, and have a crown lock.
