Anyway, Sarah called me today and confirmed it was because I changed a weapon on my permit. She said she has no idea how long it's going to take them to process it. You folks adding or changing a gun might want to keep this in mind. I believe my sister told me her Tennessee permit took two weeks and cost about $25 for eight years. I'm looking forward to that... except since Tennessee accepts all my other permits I won't even have to wait the two weeks. My Big Bear cabin going on the market in April folks, if you want a place up here hit me up.

I wonder what’s going in San Bernardino lately? Between these posts of people not getting their renewal card before expiration and excessively longer backgrounds, I wonder if issueing and maintaining current ccw’ers is getting less friendly in the county right before our eyes. Something definitely seems up...

May class already reserved (Rancho) . Taking in my paperwork sometime in April, hopefully I will have my Real Id by then (renewing end of March).

Hubby and I both got our Real ID's in the mail in under two weeks.

Got another question about caliber change for a pistol. I have a G23 I am converting to 9mm to add to my permit to carry for renewal, I have to DROS as the caliber to be carried correct? I can do that at any gun shop how does that work exactly.

One suggestion I heard was doing it at a pawn shop, but regardless, the caliber must match the "paperwork." |

Thanks. Here's another question...
I had previously filled out the application and been given an interview date, this was a couple years ago, but I was unavoidably unable to get to it. Now I am on the application page, just filled everything out, and it says that my SSN is already in the database and won't let me submit the application. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it? Thanks. |

Call on Monday. I would guess they will give you an appointment date and tell you to print it out and bring it in then.

Well folks, ten days after expiration and my renewal still not here. The only answer I can get from the SBSD is they have "no idea when it will be processed." I made three trips from Big Bear to the station, paid all my money orders on time, did all my paperwork and classes early on in the time window.
I strongly recommend that you keep whatever guns you have on your permit as is and don't modify them if you actually carry and care whether or not your renewal is done by the time your old one expires. This is pretty messed up IMO.

UPDATE: I got in touch with Sarah today and they still have not processed range cards from 1/2/19 and some even before. She said hopefully soon but cannot promise anything... shorthanded. So I asked her if I could just get my permit with the original guns. Yup. She processed my card and I went and picked it up today. So, my advice is that if you want your renewal processed promptly it's best to stick with what you have. My Glock 19 is back on my hip where it belongs.
FWIW the best way to contact them is by e-mail. Sarah is very helpful, the rest of the office there is hit and miss. /DRAMA

I had on my permit a G43, a G19, and my full size Colt 1911 which I carried exactly twice in two years. I was swapping it out for a commander size Kimber Raptor which I have to be honest I probably wouldn't carry much either. Faced with the prospect of waiting a couple more weeks or longer, I just decided to stick with status quo. When I get to Tennessee I'll carry the Kimber and/or whatever else I want.

I'll admit that (for me) the Raptor was pretty much a vanity thing. For the days you're hanging with some buddies and just want to have the cool gun for fat-chewing purposes. I think a good case can be made that all the guns you carry are of the same format and for me it's tough to argue against the "draw the gun and pull the trigger" simplicity of a Glock.
Those are all choices we have to make on our own, but I know carrying NO gun like I did the last two weeks was the worst of all options.

This application was from a couple years ago, I believe I put something to the effect of "Protecting myself, my family, and others." When I thought I was going to have to submit a new app, I was going to cite the statistics available in the county Community Indicators Report showing a 60% rise in violent crimes and state that the ability to defend oneself was critical both in urban areas where such attacks are more likely, and in rural areas where LE response may be delayed.

That sounds good. Perhaps adding that you feel new laws and policies releasing criminals into your area early etc... That seems to be helpful. Mentioning AB 109 and Prop 47.
The interviewing deputies IME are very helpful with tailoring your GC statement at the interview.
