Default Newsom Recall Election Set for 14 September; No GOP Endorsement of a Candidate

The California GOP has decided not to endorse a candidate. See Post #12.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recall vote set for Sept. 14

Quote:
...On Sept. 14, California voters will be asked two questions: 1. if they want to recall Newsom, and 2. if so, who should replace him. If 50% or more of voters answer "yes" to the first question, the candidate with the most votes in question two becomes the next governor of the U.S.'s most populous state...

So far, at least 60 candidates have filed preliminary paperwork to run in the race, the most notable being Republican former Olympian and Keeping up with the Kardashians star Caitlyn Jenner. Other notable Republicans include former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, multimillionaire businessman John Cox, and former House Rep. Doug Ose.

Democratic challengers include Kevin Paffrath, a real estate agent and social media personality, former U.S. House hopeful Frank Wade, and more than a half-dozen others...
Balletopedia shows 69 'declared candidates.'

On the Larry Elder poll, this was posted...

To kinda keep the thread material a bit more organized, I'll reply here.

This is the list of CANDIDATES FOR SEPTEMBER 14, 2021, CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL RECALL ELECTION as released by the California Secretary of State on 19 July.

Coupled with that release was a "Candidate Statements" form providing various amounts of information on the candidates, including an image, contact information, affiliation, and a brief statement of their overall intent/purpose.

Obviously, given the judge's decision today regarding the inclusion of Elder, things will change a bit and the form does say: "Subject to Court Ordered Changes."

I'm not seeing the Official, Certified list, yet. Then again, given the court decision, it might have been 'delayed' just a bit.

I wonder when the ballots will be sent out. Chances are that I'll be at sea before they arrive in the mail, and will not be back until after the election is over.

From the FAQ on the Secretary of State's website...

Quote:
Will every active registered voter be mailed a vote-by-mail ballot?

Yes. Every active registered voter will be mailed a vote-by-mail ballot for the recall election. Counties will begin to mail vote-by-mail ballots approximately 29 days before Election Day.

I guess I'm probably not voting, then. Too bad. I really want to vote for the recall and for Elder. The law moving up the process ended up making it so I probably can't vote.

He may not, but he won't be coming after our guns like newscum. And, we send a message we aren't going to stand for these crazy lockdowns.

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times put out a piece... The Newsom recall: What happens between now and election day

The headline is a little misleading, but they do address some questions which have come up.

Quote:
...Newsom and his allies were successful in stopping a prominent Democratic elected official from entering the race...

The deadline to appear on the ballot has passed, but those who want to try their luck as write-in candidates have until 14 days before election day to file the necessary paperwork...

In coming days, these efforts will break into public view. Several candidates will meet Wednesday at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum for the first televised debate. But the two most well-known candidates are not participating. Elder had previously committed to attending a fundraiser, and a spokeswoman tweeted that he didn’t want to participate in a “Circular firing squad among GOP.” Jenner is filming a reality television show in Australia.

Three days later, the state Republican Party will decide whether to endorse a contender in the race. Some candidates and activists believe the process has been rigged in favor of Faulconer, a favorite of the party establishment, and are urging delegates to vote against an endorsement...

State election officials have already begun sending ballots to military and overseas voters. On Aug. 16, they will start mailing them to all registered voters in California as required by a 2019 law prompted by the pandemic.

Voters can return them by mail, or surrender them if they want to vote in person on Sept. 14.

The ballots contain two questions:
  • Should Newsom be recalled?
  • Regardless how you voted on the first question, if the governor is recalled, who should he be replaced by?
If more than 50% of voters say that Newsom should be recalled, the top vote-getter in the second question will serve the rest of Newsom’s term, regardless of how few votes that candidate gets.

Readers have reported some confusion over the ballot, notably that if they vote for a candidate in the second question, would that erase a no vote on the first question? The answer is no. Even if voters oppose the recall, they have the option of voting for a replacement candidate in case the recall is successful without affecting their “no” vote on the first question.
It's interesting that there appears to be some 'uncertainty' as to whether Elder will participate in the debate. Some outlets are reporting that he will and some outlets are reporting that he won't.

Larry Elder to Attend Fundraiser Instead of First GOP California Recall Debate

Newsom, Jenner, Elder to skip California recall election gubernatorial debate

Five Recall Election Candidates Will Debate Aug. 4 at the Nixon Presidential Library

Quote:
...Here are the participants in the debate.
  • Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer
  • Radio talk-show host Larry Elder
  • Businessman John Cox
  • Assemblyman Kevin Kiley
  • Former Rep. Doug Ose
Newsom was invited to participate but did not respond to the invitation. Olympic decathlon gold medalist turned reality television personality Caitlyn Jenner was invited but is not available, organizers said...

The Nixon Foundation is planning a second debate for the week of Aug. 22 and has invited the same candidates to participate.
The more recent of those reports indicates he won't be participating.

From my preceding post...

Quote:
...Three days later, the state Republican Party will decide whether to endorse a contender in the race. Some candidates and activists believe the process has been rigged in favor of Faulconer, a favorite of the party establishment, and are urging delegates to vote against an endorsement...
Well... California GOP decides against endorsing a Newsom recall challenger

Quote:
The California Republican Party has decided not to endorse one candidate in the recall election that could result in the ouster of Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Four candidates, conservative radio host Larry Elder, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, state Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, and former Rep. Doug Ose, qualified to be eligible for the party's endorsement, but none of them reached the requisite 60% threshold among party delegates on Saturday. The recall election is scheduled to take place on Sept. 14.

Had the party voted to endorse a specific candidate, it would have provided him or her with the resources and infrastructure of the party to support the campaign. Instead, all 42 candidates who qualified for the Sept. 14 ballot will be running their campaigns without the backing of the party...
