Hi Calguns LE, can your employers mandate/force you to get vaccinated as a term to remain employed with said agency?
Something tells me they can not but does anyone have any insight? *Mods if this belongs in another area of Calguns please move as appropriate.

Were I use to work no, they would offer hepatitis and all those type of things but it wasn’t mandatory. I retired in 2008 so who knows now but normally based on MOU’s and liability they would be hard pressed to require it.

The short answer; yes.
An employer can make a vaccination a requirement if you want to continue working there.

I work for the CDCR, and yes they can mandate it as a condition of employment. If you can offer a document from your doctor to exempt you (allergy issues as example) or provide proof of religious exemption (not sure how that one works) you can get around it though.

Huh? LEO agencies can, and do, make all kinds of demands upon employees as conditions of employment. An employee's refusal to comply will result in termination.

It's a game of chicken and who knows which side will blink first. Sure people can talk a good game, but that might be all it is: talk.

My department said it's voluntary.
I'm definitely NOT getting it. I was already sick a while back and tested positive for it. Even if I didn't get it, I'd risk catching it than getting the vaccination. Last edited by esy; 01-02-2021 at 5:13 PM.. Reason: should said NOT getting the vaccination. |

If I was really interested in the question, I’d also research whether the FDA might object to a mandatory covid vaccination when the vaccine is only approved on an emergency basis presently.

I have read several opinions on this. Not sure what a court might decide.
What I read is because it has only been allowed on an emergency basis by the FDA, it would be hard to make it mandatory. |

Federal DOJ vaccination is optional for now.
Seems like theyre gunna vaccinate the inmates before staff. They only do covid checks on inmates even for those of us that work covid units regularly. Covid positive = 2 weeks off paid though so all the staff wants covid lol. |

Faauukk. I was just exposed a few days ago. I got tested this morning. No symptoms so far and I should get my results tomorrow. The department doctor said my exposure was limited and I don’t have to self quarantine. I may have two weeks off coming.

Currently, it is voluntary, but the memo we received is basically making us feel obligated to take the vaccine. I caught it in September and it messed me up pretty bad. My lungs are still trashed from it and I get chest pains pretty often I've never had pre-covid. With that said, I refused the vaccine.

Well the good news is I tested negative. Thanks GizmoSD for sharing your experience. I’m rethinking I will probably take the vaccine when offered. My parents are at a high risk because of their age.

Optional for Fed LEOs.
However, I would imagine that there would be job training/assignments that you would no longer eligible for. The bigger question is what you might be limited from if you don't vaccinate: - can't grocery shop - can't take any form of mass transit (planes?) - can't enter school grounds - can't enter public buildings I wouldn't put it past this state. |

My agency is optional so far. Most of the guys I work with aren’t getting it. We all pretty much don’t want to be a guinea pig.
Once it’s readily available, I can see the airlines requiring proof of vaccination to fly though, in addition to other countries requiring travelers to have had it. |
