I've had this black powder Uberti 1858 for a while and the cap cone was always tight when using CCI 10 caps and way too loose using CCI 11s. Why don't I use any other brand you ask, because I can't find them without paying hazmat. I even ordered a Teso 11 and it was just a little loose also, not as bad as the one that came with the gun. So today I decided to gently Dremel a bit off all around. Should have done this months ago. I have an original set on order for 18 bucks delivered in case the CCI 10s disappear. I also have some bluing so it doesn't rust. No more misfires.

Bluing is purely cosmetic. Oil stops rust.

the hot soapy water you should be using to strip out the remaining salts also takes off the old oil.

I use boiling water poured down the barrel of my BP rifle after scrubbing with hot water and soap. It helps heat the barrel up so that it dries faster. Then I oil the gun.

Met a guy at the range with the Pietta colt and walker, the caps wouldn't go in correctly at any angle, for some reason they didn't make a deep enough bevel. I guess he'll have to insert them with the cylinder taken out. Love my Uberti. The 45LC conversion cylinder also fit without any adjustments. Shoots high with the cowboy 850fps loads. 25g of FFF gets it out to the 50yd 12x20 plate easily.

I shoot Tripple 7 now and it just washes out with water and soap easily. It doesn't gunk up the works as much either, get like 6 or 8 loadings before things get tight. Save the real black powder for the flintlock.
Tripple 7 is slightly higher power but since I'm only using 25 grains it's not noticeable. |

No.
But the big advantage of boiling water is that the gun dries itself out afterwards. Unless the ultrasonic runs at 150 to 200, you are going to have to disassemble the action to get all the water out if it. With hot water down only the barrel, you are not mucking with the lockwork.
