Info for a noobie?

Moving to Sac area soon, and interested in joining a rifle club!
As I am totally new to the topic (have read up on IDPC and USPSA but nothing related to rifles before) - any recommendations on initial rifle, as well as good sites to learn?

Thanks for the pointer - saw Appleseed's listing on the Sac Valley website, but wasn't quite sure what kind of match/event Appleseed is. It's .22 and up general rifle?

And would something like this be fine for shooting with Appleseed?
