Default How fast can you "build" a stripped AR15 lower?

I recently picked up an extra stripped receiver since it was only $70. And I decided to "build" it when I got home. Well to my surprise, finished it in about 15mins. I chit you not. I think I only used 5 tools total.

So to anyone on the fence about "building" a lower receiver, It's all in your head. YOU CAN DO IT!

It takes me about 14.5 minutes. We should have a competition.

Depends on how many beers and if I have to work at the same time. Do it over a big white sheet so you can find all the springs that want to migrate.

I helped an aunt build an AR9 at our place in Mesa and it had the threaded bolt release pin. That was pretty sweet. Plus, mag release already installed. Those go together quick, especially with a modular trigger and a brace.

I admit Iíve spent time crawling around trying to find a spring.

Bought a large bag of springs and parts from Amazon.

Yeah, 30 minutes can happen but when my wifeís Cat watches me it makes me
Nervous.
I like to go slow and keep the build pristine. Hereís a Piston upper and lower I built.
Be well kids

The biggest PITA on the lower is the bolt catch. The Aero M4E1 and similar lowers handle the issue by using a threaded hex. Castle nut can be quickly and securely installed using the PWS ratcheting system.

On the upper, forward assist is also threaded on the M4E1 series. The dust cover C-clip is a PITA as well and can be assembled quickly using a QD style cover. Really, the only thing that needs to be torqued is the BBL nut and muzzle device after. Advancements in tech have made assembling an AR so easy. Then again, tight tolerance receivers like the BCM uppers need to be heated up to seat the barrel.

Trick question. If building a stripped AR15, you are done before you begin.

Yeah, I like to take my time these days building lowers and uppers. So, less than 1 hour is good for me. Gives me time to check each part, not drop and lose small parts, stake the castle nut (if carbine build) and not scratch surfaces when assembling.

I wasnt trying to complete it as fast as possible. I just started it and when I finished I noticed that it only took me about 15mins and I didnt make any blemishes or lose any springs.

LOL
I've developed a real knack for finding detente pins in carpeting, cluttered floors and even in the dirt when we built a lower on a campout.

Takes me about 6 hours. I should do a live video feed for everybody.

Same as when I go shooting, I can shoot 25 rounds in about 2 hours.

I need to go to the range now. 4 hours to pack up and get to my local range....15 minutes away.

I'd be more interested in how you'd do with something like this. Finish rough wood and barrel, blue, fit and trim.
https://www.dixiegunworks.com/index/...wken+Rifle+Kit

I like my AR's, but they're really not that much to "build".

It depends on the trigger group you're installing. If you're using a drop in trigger housing it's like cheating. Because for me that hammer pin sucks.

Thats one of those things where experience makes a difference. I've installed and switched out "milspec" AR triggers so many times I can just do it with one punch and my bare hands. Dont need a vise or any other tools. I use my visible abs as a vise, lol.

What are the smallest parts in a complete AR build? I just built an A1 retro upper and the roll pin for the rear windage knob took needle point tweezers to hold it and tap it. The cir-clip that holds the dust cover rod from sliding back is tiny, and I didn't have any tiny asian lady fingers available for helping with that kind of stuff.

However long it takes. Sometimes I like to crack open a beer and take my time, sometimes I like to get it together quickly. Either way, I've never timed it.

Most time consuming thing is finding where I put the tools. They usually take me ~20 min, but the last one took about an hour. The owner was sitting next to me and I turned into all-thumbs.

Slow is smooth - smooth is good - good is FAST.

Doing it RIGHT, still takes precedence over doing it FAST.

Smooth is smooth for me. I wasnt trying to go fast on purpose, nor was I timing myself. I've just done it so many times that I have a good technique now.

Takes me a bit longer, but in my defense...I use a few out of the box parts and watch tv while I'm leisurely assembling a lower.

We'll call it multi tasking.
