Lowest Picatinny Mount (Reflex RDS for M1A Scout)
Hey guys,
Looking for a mini reflex red dot that is SUPER low profile for my M1A Scout. The problem is that most of these sights, when attached to a picatinny mount, have the viewing window too high for a proper cheek weld. Burris Fastfire II or a JPoint look promising, but I can’t find a mount low enough... Any suggestions?

Yeah, there are definitely some that are taller, but a whole bunch in the same thickness league.
I found a few mounts that were about 1/8” above the rail, which is probably as low as I’m gonna find. Cheek rest might be the only answer :-/

I went with an unltimak rail & older aim point on a socom. Same rail works on a scout. http://www.ultimak.com/m8.htm IMG_0073 2.jpg |

Seems to be about 1/4” lower than any of the other “lowest” options out there. The base of the Venom actually sits slightly lower than the OEM rail attached to the barrel. In the pic below, you can see that the RDS sits on a recesssd platform with this mount.
https://www.vertexops.com/mobile/pro...e1567312344081 It’s about as low as you can go. Pretty cool though!

I don’t think so, but I’ll confirm on Monday when I get the mount!

Based purely on the picture below (taken from the internet, I added the lines and text), the sight lines dont look like it will co-witness. I just took off the current low pro mount that came with the Venom and placed it where it appears it will sit over the action, like the picture below. I am thinking that if there is any co-witness, it would literally be dead even with the bottom of the window of the sight...like lower 99/100ths co-witness, if anything.
I'm actually a little concerned right now about the rear peep sight getting in the way of the sight picture through the venom! I know I can take off the rear apeture if need be, but I'd rather not have to do that because I like the idea of having the backup irons should the Venom fail...

Based on that pic, I'd say no co-witness. I'm betting you'll need a cheek riser too.
I know they are expensive, but for a co-witness you're going to want the Ultimak IMO. |

Welp, my calculations were correct: 1/100th co-witness! The two white lines are on the Venom sight.
Is it usable as a co-witness? Yes, but not extremely well. The entire bottom half of the sight picture is blocked by the Venom's base. It would work in a pinch, but certainly not ideal. Blocking the bottom half cuts down on peripheral view, and blocks light from coming through the rear apeture. But it is doable. The pictures of the broken receiver is scary....wondering if I make some cuts to intentionally weaken the mount in case of a fall (the dreaded carpet? ), it would snap off the $80 mount instead of the much more expensive receiver.

Outside of co-witness use, you do not need a cheek riser using this mounting solution. Normal cheek weld can be used in co-witness or non co-witness. It's the lowest profile mount out there.
Just dont drop it!
