Default Anyone Ever Display Their CCW and Report to Their IA?

Has anyone around here ever displayed their CCW while in fear for their life, and reported the incident to their Issuing Agency?

It's one of the terms in Orange's Terms of License Agreement,

Quote:
Should the license holder display or utilize the concealed weapon for which the license has been issued, the license holder shall notify the CCW Licensing Unit in writing. Written notification shall be provided to the CCW Licensing Unit within five days of the original date of incident and outline the circumstances resulting in the use of the weapon.
What was your experience like?

Yes. The experience was good with OCSD. I was told to continue to carry while the incident was investigated. I received a letter a few weeks later stating no action would be taken with my license to carry.

I was given an award for valor from the city where the incident took place and had no negative issues. No shots were necessary that night and displaying stopped the attack.

This statistic should be added to the "Defensive Gun Use" , where the presence of a gun prevented a crime or possibly saved a life.
When gun control freaks say "if just one life could be saved", this is where we need to be able to say how many hundreds of thousands of lives ARE saved by law abiding people having guns... Many many more than the number killed.

Yes. I got a call from Sheriff Allman thanking me for having a CCW and that he is glad I was alright.

Not for display of my gun. But, I saw a guy urinating on my car. He fled away when I got downstairs. Wife called the police and I jumped into the other car to locate him. I did leave my CCW at home as the person is know to have some mental problems. I found him just as the Sherifs pulled up as well. They told me to leave and go home. I did and met them 10 minutes later. I explained the situation in detail and then informed them of my CCW. All but on of the 3 officers was thankful for the information. One officer was not. I did notify OCSD of the incident. It took two more emails for me to get a response of "no problem and thank you for the notification" in general description. All was good.

I explained that I left my CCW at home as the person was known to have mental health issues and i didn't want to be seen as a person looking for trouble or vindication of the act. I wasn't looking for a conflict nor wanting to create on with a compromised person. I just wanted to find that individual before he vanished. All worked out well but I did have to clean my car.

What was the point of discussing your CCW at all if you weren't carrying?!!?

While it may not have hurt, it didn't do anything useful.

Exercise better judgment for the rest of us.

Twice I had a guy at gun point. I keep green chem lights with me.. ( cylume sticks ) tell dispatch I have guy at gunpoint, I crack a Chemlight on a paracord throw it around my neck backwards. Tell dispatch to relay to incoming not to shoot the guy holding the gun glowing green. Wrote it up referenced the incident # and that was it.... and that is 20 years of having a CCW in OC.
