Default Enhanced carry class 1/22 in Emmett, ID

I'm going to take the enhanced carry class in a couple Sundays. Why, when we have Constitutional carry you ask?
1. No more gun purchasing background checks
2. No more having to adhere to "gun free zones"

There are other reasons I've since forgot, but those are the 2 main ones for me. Class is 8-4 and is $80. Must bring 100 rounds of ammo and a hangun. If there is any interest in taking the class let me know and I'll get you in touch with the instructor.

I just applied for the basic a couple weeks ago. I'm still a month shy of meeting the 6 month residency requirement for the enhanced. At the time the guy told me he's seeing people get the approval letter within 2-3 weeks. I figured it might take a little longer since I turned it in just before the holidays. I did it mostly to avoid the NICS check when purchasing. Not sure if I'll apply for the enhanced. I'm never on college campuses and have a ton of exploring to do here in Idaho still that I don't plan on traveling out of state anytime soon. I don't know if I will reap the benefits that the enhanced offers, at least for right now.

Washington and Nevada only recognize the enhanced permit which is the same as many other states. While Washington is a simple application and a small fee, Nevada is a full day class. You should make sure that whatever class you take, meets Oregon requirements, should you ever decide to get an Oregon permit.

I believe Oregon is like California where they only recognize their own permit

Yes, but unlike California they will issue to residents of adjoining states on a may issue basis and some Oregon Sheriffs gladly do so.

Well worth getting the enhanced permit. As an experienced shooter, you'll get lots more from the legal part of the class than any other. Our class instructor spent about 80% of the range time helping two neophytes load and operate their revolver and semi-auto. Maybe a little frustrating for the rest of us, but good to welcome two new shooters to the ranks.

We took the class at our range (Fernan) in October. I still need to submit our applications to the SO thanks for the reminder.

Yes. It took the ISP over 90 days to complete my background check when I last renewed. Also there is additional delay getting a appointment to submit your application and then again to get your picture taken. After they have taken your picture you will get a temporary until the plastic card arrives.

Make sure to get your CHL in Oregon after taking it asap. When I took my enhanced ID CCW course, the instructor warned that Oregon sheriffs accepting the ID enhanced CCW to obtain Oregon CHL have been dropping like flies, and the only one he currently knows of is Malheur County Sheriff office (where I got mine).

Malheur County is a little far for those of us in the CDA area. I got my Oregon CHL from the Klamath Sheriff based on the Nevada CCW class I took (NRA certified instructor). Renewed and changed my address at the Grant County Sheriff. They asked if I had any other permits and when I replied yes, Enhanced Idaho, Utah and Washington they asked to see them so they could make photocopies for their records. In any event, there are several ways to satisfy Oregon's training requirements. See below:

Demonstrates competence with a handgun by any one of the following:
(A) Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the State Department of Fish and Wildlife or a similar agency of another state if handgun safety was a component of the course;
(B) Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course if handgun safety was a component of the course;
(C) Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by law enforcement, community college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or a law enforcement agency if handgun safety was a component of the course;
(D) Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, reserve law enforcement officers or any other law enforcement officers if handgun safety was a component of the course;
(E) Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a handgun through participation in organized shooting competition or military service;
(F) Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state, unless the license has been revoked; or
(G) Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a firearms instructor certified by a law enforcement agency or the National Rifle Association if handgun safety was a component of the course;

It should also be noted that for residents of WA, ID, CA and NV you will be required to submit a compelling reason letter. One should check with the Oregon Sheriff to see what are acceptable compelling reasons.
