Default I Was Going to Buy a Gun at Turners

I went over to Turners West Covina to day. After standing around outside for close to half an hour, I got told by some little honey with a clip board that I can't buy a gun without making an appointment. I didn't realize that Turners was doing so well that they only sell firearms when it is convenient for them and not for the potential customer.

Many places are by appointment only since all this Covid mess started.

I had the same thing happen at Signal Hill. The Maitre 'D stopped me when I tried to buy a couple of guns there on consignment. I called the next day 10 minutes after they opened to set an appointment. They were all filled up already. Wrote an email to "That one Turners Guy", but got no response. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, "No one goes to that gun shop any more.... It's too crowded!"

Fortunately there are enough other stores to support.

They were allowing walk ins today at the Rancho location before 1 pm. No problems here had an appointment though.

The waiting time for turners firearm purchase was bad enough before covid19. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would want to go there now.

Hmmmm....I don't recall ever having an issue at Turner's. I've had good to great service every time.

My only issue is all the looky loos that shop and talk but never seem to get out the cash or credit card...and just gum up the counter. The gun counter team has a lot of patience.

Anyway, I guess enough staff at the San Bernardino store know me and I always seem to get waived over to the fishing counter where we start business....then I am in and out in a jiffy.

I went to the Signal hill store on a Friday and was told I need to make a appointment with the next one available was for the next wed. So I went to Fountain Valley which is closer to my home waited in line 45 mins. and bought a Glock 17. My nephew walked in to the Orange store with no wait. I guess every store is different. I'm on day 10 on my dros. And this was my 1st gun buy at Turner's and it was a great experience. Patience and a good attitude goes far when dealing with salespeople who have to deal with lookie loos and know it alls.

Default Turners customer service

I've been disappointed with Turners customer service at times as well but I really don't think they are any worse than any other gun shop. They are all bad. Face it, this is California and a gun purchase requires a mountain of paperwork and a lot of time. I do think things are far worse now due to COVID and the new ammo law. You just have to grin and bear it.

Needed a magazine for my Glock.
Stopped at a local Mom & Pop shop that a friend frequents.
Nothing on the shelf, the two employees didn't seem to care. Wouldn't even make eye contact! Maybe they don't like woman with guns.
Next stop was a shop that is a CG members.
Plenty of stock and $20 higher than everyone else!!!

I'll wait and go to Turners's.

Highland Guns $49.99 for a G19 10 round mag.

Turner's same thing for $29.99.

ETA someone else just told me they are tagged $39.99 now.
Still $10 more than everyone else.

Personally I have enjoyed the appointment only system at Turner's. I had a gun clear on Monday, made an appointment for Tuesday morning and it took less than 30 minutes to complete the deal. No waiting in line around the block.
Before the madness I've gone in and had to wait 45 minutes just to have my number called and then spend 30 minutes doing what I went in to do.
I'm not saying I want appointments to become the norm but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

I guess for retired people and unemployed people it doesn't suck spending hours at Turner's. For the working people it does suck balls wasting time (equals money for me) at a place like Turner's. Either PPTs, ammo, guns, they suck dog balls. Period.

Turners appointment process is so flawed, at least for the San Marcos store. I showed up early to a 11am appointment and wasn't even let into the store until 11:30am. Then I had to pull a number and wait another 30 minutes...

Here's what I saw:

A customer with an appointment walks in and they don't know what they want, so they browse for 20-30 minutes and the sale associate behind the counter is tied up with them the whole time. Then they start the DROS paperwork and once that's finished a manager has to review it, so that's another 20 minutes. I was there for damn near 2 hours and I knew exactly what I wanted.

When I lived in Oklahoma, one of the city's larger gun store had their process to buy a gun streamlined and it ran so smooth! If you wanted to buy a gun, do your browsing and then go to one of the iPads to fill out the 4473. Then you would go to the counter and tell the sales associate your name and what gun you wanted. They gather your docs/ID, fill out info on their side, and boom you hit the register. The entire process once you know what you want probably took 10 minutes.

I've seen Turner's discussed on a few threads around here and from what I've read it depends on which store you're shopping at. As I've said before, I have no issues with the store near me and I've gone there well over two dozen times in the last year.

Turners Oxnard has been very prompt and efficient for me over the years, had a snafu once and they jumped thru hoops to get me into a GP100 well under cost by order of the manager to compensate me. Bulk of my business there was PPT's.

Last December I bought a 7 shot GP100 at Turner's and put it on layaway because of the 30 day wait. In January I did the DROS and 10 days later went in to pick it up but the computer denied the paperwork. The manager realized that the 7 shot version had been dropped from the roster at the end of 2019 and the computer should have flagged the sale during the DROS.
To make it up to me they offered me a Match Champion at a 10% discount which I happily accepted.

I have been to (at least) 8 separate stores to buy guns.

Turners rates as #8.

That does not even include the wait time just to get to the gun counter.
Most of the problem is the back and forth for approvals and payment, very inefficient, but I guess it satisfies their lawyers.

I bought more there than anywhere else due to location and noobness.

Glad folks at other locations are satisfied.

I've done multiple transactions at Turners including one being my most recent one! Was in and out of the store in less than 30 mins when i went to go pick up. Great Service! The pandemic has put a huge strain on the gun market. Give them a break! Its not easy running a gun store especially with these unconstitutional gun laws!

Turners is the McDonald's of gun stores. Don't expect it to be something it's not.

were did a PPT Saturday at a very nice store, it was a 2.5 hr wait to be seen. I picked up a gun from 10 days back and my wife bought a PPT gun in all of about 14 minutes because we had our ducks in a row.

There was guy in there taking his HSA test because his wife and daughter had bought a gun and he thought he had to have it because he lived in the house. Nice enough guy but geze, the womens had to get the gun for the house? This state is soooo screwed.

I've bought from Turners before and sometimes have had to wait 10-15 minutes to have my number called. I use that time to browse. I haven't been in a gun store since this whole COVID thing started but I do need another revolver.
