Ok, I'll see if I can make it. I was probably mostly frustrated at how overly-busy my evenings were this week. I'd give it about 75% that I'll be there.
If nothing else, I've got plenty of cardboard and 7.62x54R. Rapid-fire with the CZ52 sounds too good to keep me away anyway. |

I have a couple you can borrow if you need to.

Yeah I'm bringing some of those T shirts and hats stuff.
I have some paper targets and that Kevlar 50 cal stopper. Figure to be there by 9 with a lunch and a rifle I have yet to shoot. Vick

Alright, I'm loaded and ready. I'll bring my K31 in the off chance I can buy or trade some GP11 off someone. Otherwise, I'll at least get that scope pretty close before I'm outta quarters. Maybe someone'll trade me for a box of 5.56 I don't have a gun for.
Bringing about 300 rounds of 7.62x54R... I think I've only got about 250 or so of 7.62x25, that should go fast. A few empty and rinsed coolant bottles from work, plenty of cardboard, some lumber to stand it up with. And a BMW wheel. My wife's aunt asked me why I was saving it when I told her what it was, I told her "to shoot it." She asked why. I said "cause I can't shoot an entire BMW." |

Wow, on my video of the wheel vs Tannerite, you can definitely hear something go by. I need to edit it down a bit, though. It's about a minute too long.
That was a hell of a fun day. Definitely worth the effort, and I was really de-stressed when I got home. It was great meeting you all, and thanks to everybody who let me play with their stuff. |

THANKS Everyone!
Yea, you can hear something fly by on my vid also, I'll get it posted in a few minutes. I'll add pics in a few as well. The video is a little shakey because I zoomed in way out there, but
you 'll get the picture. Link to Bye Bye BMW wheel video http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t=MVI_1768.flv I had a great time today! I'm glad everyone made it out. Hopefully we can get another one together before the April 15th closure. We had some great "reactive" targets, thanks Sned45, Can'thavenuthingood, Rickfifty and M. Sage. The wheel was COOL! It was great meeting everyone, Thanks again for the great time!

Was Sned45 mixing metal and tannerite under 100 yds again?
It's all good fun until someone gets there head cut open with shrapnel. Never, ever place metal between you and the tannerite.

I definitely heard some **** whizzing around REAL fast and pretty far when the wheel blew up. Next time I'm hiding behind the kevlar.

The pic of the kevlar doesn't show where the 7.62x54R went through. It MIGHT be because I hit closer to the edge, but it sure sent a lot of aramid fluff out the back side. |

Well, I'm hoping to get one more shoot organized before the April 15th closure date. Is anyone interested?

Is any date better than another for everybody? Saturday March 31st is most likely OK for me. Anyone else have a preference?

Here are a few more pics. No visible faces, either, so I didn't have to edit.
Bustin' cans with thedrickel's shotgun. Here's the shot that shows 7.62x54R went through that kevlar panel. Maybe it was too close to the edge, might not have gone through at the center, but I was out of room for putting it anywhere else. |

What we found where the wheel had been sitting... or closest to it.
Pile of wheel parts: That's about it. You can see all of the pics I uploaded here: http://www.putfile.com/organizeimage...=1&album=92365 |

Wow, great video of that BMW wheel going to pieces blfd1. I heard that part whistle by also. That was my first experince of the tannerite. I gotta get some of that for the next time.
I have lots of pics of but I need to get them scaled down and I'm as good at that as I am at throwing pop cans for Drickel to shoot at with his new shotgun. Fortunately he wasn't shooting fast. First can I threw went high but landed right in front of us. He said to toss it out there a bit further. So I tossed the next one high enough but it went backwards right over us all and we watched it land in front of my pickup. I thought SNED was gonna whiz in his jeans he was laughing so hard. I was subsequently relieved of my duties as pop can tosser upper. I went and sat down under the shade and had some coffee. As far as my face in the pics posted I don't mind and its too late for me anyway as I am posted on gunsr4.us. Go ahead and post. I had my 30.06 sporterized Argentine mauser and Marlin Remington with iron sights but my eyes ain't what they used to be. I was a bit depressed cause I couldn't hit anything. I tried blfd1's gonger way out there about 300 yards but only created dust. Then moved up to Ricks gongs at about 300 feet and couldn't make them ring out in pain either. It was a bad day for me. And it started out so well too when SNED let me have first shot at the Kevlar with his 50 cal, went right through it, I don't think it even slowed down. Thank you that was great. My shooting day wound up much better when M.Sage passed me his Marlin 22 semi auto WITH a scope and I hit Ricks gong setup a number of times. Of course I had to go through a few learning exercises with it as I didn't realize it was a semi auto and cocked it after each shot, ejecting a perfectly good cartridge. It was a do over. Thanks M. But I'm deadly at 100 feet with a 50 cal My dumb moment came when I switched to the 30.06 after firing the Marlin lever action .35 Reminton. One of the rounds didn't fire and then wouldn't eject, had to borrow a cleaning rod from SNED s buddy (sorry forgot the name) and it dropped out of the chamber. Turns out I loaded a .35 Rem cartridge into the '06 and it don't work, too small. Say welcome to the new Calguns forum member that was there also. I forgot her name. But she is looking to pick up a rifle or 2 so will be posting some questions about them I'm sure. The 357 SIG she had is represented on the Kevlar target. By the way the Kevlar is 1 1/2 inch thick. blfd1 were you able to scout out any terrain that is a bit flatter? This was a good area to shoot as it had a 300 plus yard range. BUT the walking up and down those hills to get back and forth was killer. A nicety to have would be a little motorized wagon or cart to carry the steel up and down the hills. We can't have an ATV out there but maybe a little cart or wagon to lug the stuff around. I carried that Kevlar downhill 100 feet and dropped it right there. M.Sage helped me carry it back up to the truck. I forgot the rerod I had holding up my umbrella shade and the 2 pieces for the Kevlar. Hope no one walked into them and got hurt. I don't know about the 31st for another Panoche for me. Chabot is next weekend and I'm trying to get there. Then following week at Panoche? It makes for an uneasy homefront. I can however reserve opening at Panoche next October. After many years of opening for fishing, any 'opener' is just understood. October 20th is the first saturday Panoche is open, right? If you go March 31st, I'll call it a maybe. I'll work on Panoche pics. Vick

We could try April 14th, would that work better for everyone? I'm open really, I just want to give as much notice to everyone as I can. The more people the better the shoot (in my opinion) It gives everyone a chance to meet and check out eachothers toys. I like the idea of a place that isn't restricted to 100 or 200 yards, that gets boring. Plus out there we can shoot a "multitude" of targets. Does anyone know if there is another place that we can shoot long range near the bay area?

I would like to find a site that has further ranges, maybe out to 1000 yds
Ha! I could barely SEE the orange gong you had at the 300+ yard range. I need a bat to hit anything and it probably ought to have a scope on it. blfd1 you were dinging that gong regularly, seems like just about every shot. If it wasn't for Sage's .22 Marlin scope I'd be taking up knitting tablecloths. 1000 yards and we better have water stops along the way for us old guys. Maybe a hammock for a nap somewhere near the halfway point? I do have a barn door I picked up on a recent deconstruction project, about a 10x6 footer. I'll have to look at Photobucket and see if I can penetrate the easy part. I couldn't access M.Sages stuff he posted. Her name is Illiana Thats right, Hi Illiania Hope you had a good time out there. April 14th might be good for me depending on the taxmans greed. Regarding the little go cart, we might not get away with riding on one but we could walk with it an steer it like a wagon or power buggy. I was surprised at how long it actually took to setup targets and get things ready before the first shots were fired. I got to the gate at about 9:05, drove the five miles back and setup. First shots from the group were about 11:30 or so. Bedtime. Vick

I'll try actually being on time next time by not getting lost, I'd be more than happy to help carry targets out long range.
blfd1: Do you have Google Earth? The 3d might make a good way to kind of pre-scout a flatter spot if you want. Can'thavenuthingood: Hah, yeah, we noticed the rebar. Nobody walked into it, but it made a fun pistol target. I'll make sure I bring the .22 again next time. Glad you enjoyed it. Anytime we're at the range and you want to use it, just ask. I've still got a couple bricks sitting around here. I was actually thinking the thing had decided it didn't like whatever ammo I'd given you. It had worked great for me, but I'd busted out some different ammo when I walked over when you tried it. I was going "great, loan someone a rifle, and it quits working. How embarassing..." I realized the link I put under my pics takes you to a page in my account. Just click on the pics I posted for bigger sizes, and click on forward and back to see all the Panoche folder. |

It was a pleasure meeting you all out at Panoche that day and I look forward to more shooting trips/events in the near future. I apologise for my tardy reply, as I've been on a road trip to Ridgecrest/Death Valley (Ridgecrest has quite a few gunshops considering how large that town is) and attended the Shoot n' Cue at Chabot last Saturday.
Can'tHaveNuthinGood: Thank You for the warm welcome, it was a pleasure meeting you. In re your rifle comment: Yes, I'll be acquiring a few rifles in the immediate future and I have quite a few questions about them. At the next shoot, I'd like to try a variety of rifles to get a sense of what type might appeal to me (I can purchase ammo if someone allows me to shoot their rifle). I'm eager to learn about them if someone wishes to share knowledge on them. In re the Kevlar target: I also had some .357 silver tipped jacketed hollowpoints on hand, but I completely spaced it, hopefully you'll bring out another chunk of Kevlar on the next shoot so we can have a go at it Looking Forward to the next shoot, Cheers |
