New Marlin 1894C .357

I've had this one about a month now. I got it out to the Mojave last Monday. The groupings were great but I really dislike the sights. The front sight reminds me of an old lever action daisy BB gun I had 45 years ago. I have new Skinner front and back on the way.
It cycled all the .38sp and .357mag I threw at it. I found it to be a very comfortable and light gun, I was really surprised how little the recoil was compared to my two heavy R92 Rossi Oct barrel rifles.

It's a PITA to load, It was the first time out. The mag spring could probably be shorten some, maybe the loading gate spring could be notched.

Even if it's new production, It seems Marlin/Remington is getting them back on track. It looks good golfish. Loading gate will probably ease up a bit as it gets used more.

These things make ringing steel at various yardages through 100 like shooting fish in a barrel.

Someone somewhere in one of those prepper type threads suggested a .357 lever would be their choice for a b.o.g... because 100 - 200 rounds of .357 doesn't weigh as much as rifle rounds (discounting that .22-bullet 5.56 bs ) and yet can cleanly take deer. blah blah blah.

Next time you head out to the Mo-jave, hit me up! My work sched varies. I'll bring my 1894CS357, a couple of thumbusters in .44 Spl, a 1911 or two and a .308 bolt. Oh, and my new .22LR Bearcat made in 1966.

Nice! Now I want one! LOL. My biggest complaint of lever guns is their weak open sight system. Skinner sights are a big improvement.

Good to hear! This is the first post I've read where the new production Marlins in .357 actually cycle well right out of the box, at least yours does.
If I were in the market for one, I would certainly be tempted but as you see in my avatar...
Hard to tell from your photos-is there the telltale black and white "bulls eye" imbedded near the bottom base of the stock or did the sling swivel stud take its place?

I waited until I could read several reviews before ordering my rifle. The newest release of these rifle coming out of Remlin seem to be getting very favorable reviews. When I visited mine at my FFL I found the action to be surprisingly smooth ( without ammo of course) the trigger feels pretty good and the fit and finish also seems respectable. I hate the water based finish on the walnut stock, It just doesn't bring out the beauty of the wood. I plan to rectify that relatively soon.

Too bad it's not already drilled and tapped on the side for a williams FP receiver sight. They make one that uses holes on the top but it requires an even taller front sight.

I drilled and tapped my Mossberg 464 receiver for a side mounted williams fp sight and it hugely improved the rifle. I just finished installing a williams 5d receiver sight on my ruger 77/357 and now I feel that rifle is "complete".

I'm suggesting the williams FP rear sight for your rifle. It offers the most adjustment which will make sighting it in a lot easier, as easy as sighting in a scope.

And get the post front sight blade form Skinner sights, the tallest sight they sell that fits the front sigh base. File it down until the williams rear sight can take over the adjustments.

This combination is the most efficient setup that will get you dialed in with the least amount of work. My rifles with these sights consistently shoot 1" groups at 100.

I just finished installing the Skinner express black n gold and a brass front Skinner blade.
I'm not a receiver sight guy, I don't care for the look and installation.

I only like the Skinner front sight post, in black.

I tried a lot of different sights, even made my own, and I found the standard military type rear peep sight with square post front sight work very well, even for aging eyes.

The tricky part is getting aftermarket sights like those by skinner and williams dialed in. That's why I like the Williams Fool-Proof sight, it adjusts for windage and elevation much like a scope. The skinner rear has some adjustment but not as easily done as on the FP sight.

I hope those sights work out for you!

My new Marlin 94c comes out of jail next weekend. Count me in for a Mojave trip. I plan to shoot her "as is" and then make sight mods. Collecting 357 mag brass for reloading. Need to work up some rifle oriented loads.

When I ordered mine, they claimed to have 150 on order. When I drosed mine, I was told that they just filled orders only.

It looks like Turners got in the big order. The link says they have 10+ in stock. I wouldn't be suprised to see them go on sale this week for $659.00....not the best price.

I added a Skinner Express with the black n Gold upgrade, a skinner brass front sight (going to have to take a file to this one) I also swapped out the standard .096 aperture for .070 medium aperture. With the rear sight sitting so far back compared to the model 92, I'm thinking I might even have to go smaller.
I also added a saddle ring safety delete. The cross bolt safety doesn't really bother me. In some cases I really like it, but I think its better for me that all of my lever guns have the same setup, there's no confusion.

'Apples, you the fella with all the lanterns? If so. I just found a 60's era Coleman single mantle Butane lantern in my stuff. Forget where in hell I got, but, it's pretty clean. These things a collector might be interested in? Hope I'm typing to the right guy! Sorry for hijack.

I go to a little stretch of private land thats about 1.5 miles east of the 395 between Shadow Mt road and Kramer Junction. I think just about any car could get there, there is a good spot we could shoot out to probably 400 yards but your going to need a truck or 4x4 to get there, a quad would be great for setting up targets, If anybody has one.
I agree that it might be a god idea to wait another month or two, maybe let the temps fall a little.

I like it ... Mojave lever carbine shoot.

I have a couple saw horses made from 2x4s and 1/2 dozen or so AR500 steel hangers that are around 10-12 inches.

golfish, I like it. No quad, but I have a 1/2-ton pickup w/ all-terrains. Too, it's pretty simple to build pvc target frames. I could assemble a few and bring them if folks might contribute a dollar or two to cover cost.

Meanwhile, penn, thanks for the thought. Yes, that's me, but those particular lanterns used isobutne/propane in an old design, defunct, non-refillable canister. There is a device that permits use of a propane hookup, so those lanterns can be serviceable. They look neat. I have one, and it's a curiosity only since the stuff I use takes white gas (naphtha, camp fuel, etc).

There's nothing like shooting on a clear, windless day in the desert! when temps range in the high '60s. It can be near-perfection.

Yep. Love my camping trips out to the Yuha Desert. That's my backcountry. I still have my old Coleman Lantern and bring it along if I'm going to be camping stationary for a couple of nights. Not sure when it was made. It seemed pretty old when I bought it at a flea market almost 40 years ago. And I still run a Coleman white gas stove on trips. No fun having a hot meal or cup of steaming coffee in the morning if you didn't have to work a little for it.
