Default Henry mag tube question

With everything going on now I’ve been thinking of keeping my Henry loaded. My fear is the spring doesn’t feel very strong, and with a full tube loaded with soften the spring.

I know with magazines it’s not much of an issue but didn’t know for lever guns

Good question that I may need soon enough.

Replies lean to not a problem, but maybe have an extra spring handy.

Nope. Not an issue. My Henry's will both hold ten rounds[.357 and .45Colt]. I just load eight and they have been fine. You can unload from time to time to "relax" the spring. But, it doesn't seem to hurt a thing. Hope that helps.

If you're concerned about it, buy an extra spring.

Springs don’t wear out from one compression, it’s the repetition. You bought a great product, it’ll be fine.

Spring wear from the NUMBER of cycles, not from being left compressed.

So if you were to leave your mag tube loaded, no wear to the spring is occurring.
If you were to load and unload the mag tube every day/week, then lots of wear is going to occur.

Relaxing the spring occasionally actually wears it MORE than leaving it loaded all the time.

Back in the 70s when I was heavily involved in sport parachuting it was considered SOP for riggers to hang the pilot chute of the reserve to "relax the spring". They wanted a day or so to do that. I always thought it was BS but they insisted.

Turns out I was right (as you say here).
