Installed the Kingpin kit. As others have said, with the bolt open the armaglock was sticking. Polished the tab and used the original spring and it is wonderful!

So far 300 rounds and no issues.

Tried it on the same lower receiver with a 9mm mag block and 9mm upper. For some reason it doesn't have enough clearance to drop the mag when the bolt is open.

Awesome. Great report! 9mm BCG’s seem to be a bit heftier. May work in a little bit with some shooting. Glad you like it! Enjoy!

Again thank you so much. The pin is so much better quality than the JT pin. I’m probably gonna bite the bullet on cost and order some more now so if anyone needs just the AR Maglock 2 without the Kingpin, PM me.

Can you please explain a little further " dremel the top of the plunger"? Thanks

Sure, separate the upper from the lower and Take a dremel and shave a tiny bit off the top of the exposed part of the plunger. When there is a super tight tolerance between the upper and lower (IE there is absolutely no gap between the two, the length of the exposed portion of the plunger may not allow the upper and lower to close completely or separate enough to be able to drop a magazine with the bolt held back.

So I just got a report from Phil over at Los Angeles Cerakote that he coated one and it works great.

I think you may expect mixed results. It may work fine on anodized rifles but maybe not so well on cerakoted rifles. Anyway. Just thought you guys might like to know

Reporting back.
Polishing tab on maglock and using standard spring resolved the bolt hold back issue, for me also.

BTW...this isn't necessary, but I also lightly hand polished the two main sections of the kingpin.
Pin slides smooth as butter

Ordered, received and installed. Super easy to install and really improves over bb. Congrats on your design and your hard work getting it to market..... most impressive.

On another note, im ordering a second kit for another AR. This second AR has a cerakoted upper and standard (parkerized or anodized?) lower. I was planning on having lower cerakoted to match upper and wondering with the previous posts about cerakoting if i should rethink that and not do it or perhaps have that area of the pin masked off during cerakoting?

Congrats again

Installed two very easily. Thanks again for you wonderful product.

Questions though regarding future Kingpins for AR-10's.

As far as I know their are 3 configurations of "Ar-10's" Armalite AR-10, DPMS LR-308, and PSA PA-10 with DPMS style being the most popular.

Do you plan on making kingpins for all these or just the most popular one?

Either way this will probably take a while for you to get around to so I guess it will be after the deadline that you could probably get these out right?

Anyway thanks, I myself have a couple in DPMS style.

Thanks and enjoy shooting!

I was told by Phil over at Los Angeles Cerakote it all depends on the thickness of the cerakote job. At the very least you could lightly sand the takedown holes if it hangs up.

Exactly that. We will have to investigate the demand on it there. AR Maglock would have to create a Gen2 arm for .308 but because of the tolerance variance that’s a bigger undertaking. As it is right now my machinist is in overdrive trying to keep up with demand on just the standard Kingpin. We will see though. I know DAniel Defense wants the pin for their DDV5 so it will be developed for at least one .308 platform that may work for multiple rifles.

Hey Proto, would you say that the Maglock is the best mag button device to pair with your King Pin currently? Or is it simply the only button combo available at the moment?

I feel a little rushed to get one of your pins; just not 100% sure if I want to spend over $100 to try it out right now.

The answer to that is IF you dont want to drill your lower for the Hogue kit then yes.

Unfortunately all my inventory is taken by AR Maglock so until I have a surplus I won't be able to sell the pin until my machinist is caught up and able to keep up with demand.

Currently other options will work with my pin anyway BUT if you want to clear double feeds the only option is AR Maglock and with some small modification BAD and Hogue setups.

I'm not sure if you LA local but I shoot at Burro Canyon weekly and may set up a demo day if you guys want to try it out. Otherwise I would say that you'll be happy to have the AR Maglock system on there as it doesnt require major invasive surgery to be installed.

Thanks for the offer. I am in San Diego and drive up to LA (Hollywood area) occasionally. But I think it's logistically easier to just buy the combo now.

Dude buy it and don’t look back. But once cry once. Even if you decide to use the hogue route that’s 42.99 at Brownell’s and that covers three rifles. So you can use the AR Maglock Combo and decide whether or not you want to drill and then if you decide yes, it’s stupid cheap to install the hogue option and you can sell your AR-Maglock device to recoup some of that cost.

Done.

I was trying to figure out where Maglock's facility/shop is located. Just curious about shipping distance and time. It's not stated on the web site.

Side note: The parent company, Evolusion Concepts (can't tell if the misspelling of Evolution is deliberate) is located on Law Street in residential Pacific Beach. This makes is a private home/house. About 2 miles from mine, as the crow flies. I wonder if it's just a guy making the parts in his garage. LOL Based on this, I should have the package by this afternoon.

Cool. I was kinda kidding about the garage thing. I'm sure the parts are being made in one of the many local machine/manufacturing shops. San Diego is still a rich environment in that respect. As of yet they've not all converted over to craft breweries.

They're actually made in the MidWest but still PROUDLY made in the USA. My machinist is brilliant and came up with an incredible finish. if we made them here in so cal they would be twice the cost.

I was actually just referring to Maglock and the shop where the Maglocks are made. I assumed your pins were made up near LA and shipped down this way. Too bad it's so expensive to make stuff here. But FWIW, I know that Parallax Tactical has their own machine shop here in San Diego, and made/makes their hand guards and other things here. I wouldn't have characterized their parts as being double the price of hand guards made in other states.

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing your pin. Can't wait to try it out. I think I'll throw it on a lower that I was thinking of registering.

It's $4-something for mailing. Flat rate. Plus the sales tax for where you live.

NO WAY!!! if I made my pins here in LA they'd be 10 times the cost. For Parallax the point for them is they have their own machines and I dont. The Maglock arms are made out of the same shop that my pins are made. that way we can guarantee a little better seamless integration. The machinist we have is brilliant.

Also since the Hyperswitch mates perfectly with the new Gen 3 AR Maglock arms again seemless integration made the most sense.

Just rest in the knowledge that China isn't getting any of our money for our production. All parts are made here in the USA!

Engineering has started on .308 Kingpins. Be patient guys...this will take some time.

also Hyperswitch with Gen 3 is looking to launch hopefully this month.

All of the video and additional explanatory posts from protohyp make the pin and combo 100% clear (IMHO). It took some back and forth where I asked a lot of questions, but I think all the material one needs to make a buying choice is readily available.

For those here in the San Diego area who just have to put their hands on the system before buying, please contact me by text and you're welcome to check mine out (dry fire, at my house): eight 5 eight 24 5seven six75.

No not an inexpensive system, but leaps and bounds better than a bullet button.

Thanks swamp! That means a lot coming from the guy that compiled the list of Cali compliant devices! Really appreciate the support!

When you mention polishing the tab, your talking about the Maglock tab? When you have time can you post a pic of the tab in question.

Yes that would be the Maglock tab.

I didn't have to polish the tab on mine. Maybe Daleo500 can post a picture of his?

I'm out of town. This is best I can do for now.

The part we are calling the tab is the thin shelf part of the maglock that protrudes at the end of the arm. This is the part that slides in between the upper and lower receiver halves (when open) to release the mag.
If you look closely at the maglock, with the tab facing you, it is shaped like a wedge. Thicker on one side (right). Thinner on other (left). Mine was interfering at the thicker side of the tab. I used a 1" felt polishing wheel and some white rouge on a dremel. I polished the top and bottom surfaces of the tab, focusing more at the point of interference. Also tried mother's mag wheel polish. Both work.

Hope that helps

Helping where I can @protohyp

To be clear, I didn't polish the surfaces down to bare metal, with exception to the top corner of the wedge that was interfering. I polished just enough to knock down some of the texture (anodizing tooth as it was called) on those surfaces. I would say polish a little bit at a time and test fit in between until you have it functioning.
