I was able to install the thumb rest on a few different rifles using different grips. As was mentioned earlier, the wider/thicker aftermarket grips like Magpul and US Palm worked well with it and had an overall better feel. Standard polymer and bakelite AK grips not as much.

Having the downward pressure placed on it with my thumb made for easier mag changes and manipulating controls such a CH and safety. And when shouldering the rifle it allowed for a more secure grip and of course better control as opposed to letting my thumb ride the side of the receiver.

Pics are on a DA AK-103 with a Magpul grip.

Thanks for posting feedback! It does increase the comfort level with wider grips, but it still works great with standard AK grips. My personal favorite is the strike industries AK simple grip for $10-12 bucks.

Badazz AK-103 by the way I've been looking for one.

The new sling loop design will be something like this prototype. It'll stick out only 5/8 inch and will not interfere with the side rail optic. What do you guys think?

Put these awesome thumb grips on a WASR and an AK-74. Fit perfectly. Much better ergos!!

Used a Strike Industries Simple AK grip on both. Excellent setup.

Only took a pic of the WASR...

Was looking at the maglatch setup because of ergonomics but this changes all that, please add me for a “milled with sling loop right hander” my thumb will be grateful to you... 👍 (long live American innovation over tyranny...!)

So comifornia sent me one of these to evaluate. Thanks man!

Getting ready to install it on my Henderson Defense AK:

Take a look at that rubber pad. Nice and thick! And the steel construction on this thing is bomb proof:

Grip off, pretty easy:

Installed. Quick and easy:

Comfortable. Showing the hold with my stubby hands:

It even offers some one-handed control:

This thing is really well designed, and well built. I like it!

Installation tip for loose grip nuts. Stuff some aluminum foil inside the receiver to hold the grip nut steady as you screw in the grip screw.

Default review of some grip fins with the thumb grip

The thumb grip feels good with all grips, but the comfort level increases with thicker grips in my opinion. I'll point out a few different things between the grips I've sampled it on. My samples

First off my favorite is the Strike Industries AK simple grip

The Strike AK simple grip has a nice flat part here for your middle finger to push up against(in combination with downward pressure from the thumb grip) when controlling rifle for mag changes or charging the bolt carrier. The grip also has a good thickness to it. I believe Strike industries designed it that way knowing you'd need to push up to help control & stabilize the rifle.

Here is the same area with a standard AK grip with a wrap on it.

Also I like that the fin is right down the center line. This helps put your hand in the correct position in my opinion. You want to keep your palm from going past the center line to maximize comfort( Larger hands might have to go past the center line). I found this also true with the Exile Machine grip on the AR15.

vs

Next is a Magpul moe with a grip wrap on it

It also has a good flat area for your middle finger to push up against even with a wrap on it. The Magpul grip is nice and thick.

Next is a Magpul moe plus (rubber over mold) with a clear fin screwed on the side. It also has the nice flat area for your middle finger to push up against.

Next is a standard AK grip with a wrap on it
These are comfortable and feel fine to me no problem shooting with them.

Next is a standard AK grip with a fin screwed in on the side.
Even this one being the slimmest of the grips is still comfortable.

Lastly I would recommend sandpaper grip tape on all grips with a thumb rest/grip even the Exile machine grip for AR's. It really helps lock your hand in place.
I added a couple strips to my strike AK simple grip and the magpul wrap.

Milled AK thumb grip with sling loop(right handed) are almost ready. Just need to add rubber overmold on the thumb.

I actually just sent a message about this but thought it might be helpful for other lefties to have the info available.
When installed for a left hand grip does the universal grip interfere with sliding on/off an optic side rail?

edit: Seller responded and clearance is not a problem for the side rail.

The rs regulate will clear for sure. Ones with a lever on the bottom might be an issue like the midwest industries. I have to get my hands on one to test.
