From a Pawnbroker far far away.I was set to buy a Mark iii hunter and found this instead.Any problems with these model? I haven't own a Ruger mark since mid 90's.

Yeah that model has an issue of shooting all the shots through the same hole. It's an ammo waster because it only uses up a small part of the target. Enjoy!

When you have completed the transaction, can you tell us where you got it? I think I remember seeing one at a SD area pawn shop but it was in the LEO-only section.

Thanks for the kind words.It is quite rare in this configuration.The store where i got it from had a few regular tapered barrel in both blued and stainless but also a II Hunter stainless slab sided barrel for $150 more.I compared and held both but the target model is much nicer looking,lighter and has the aftermarket grips.I picked it up last Friday and shot it yesterday in an Indoor range.Shot very well and would cycle CCI sub sonic and STD but won't hold the bolt open after the last shot.The Minimags 40grain worked the best.I do wish the front sight is replaceable though.

Congrats on the buy, the stainless taper barreled with adjustable sights mkII seem to be much more rare than the blued and even the slab side models. I actually can only recall seeing one pop up in the classifieds a few years back.

You are not confused.

Ruger Standard up to Mark III are usually a pain to put back together.

Mark IV is about as easy as it gets.

I have a blue MKII with tapered 6 7/8 inch barrel and a MKII with 5.5 inch bull barrel. Both are excellent shooters. I shoot the 5.5 bull barrel more often. No reason why I prefer one over the other.

I got a MK ll Target when they first came out. Traded in a MKl STD 6". That extra little bit of length and weight made for a FANTASTIC SHOOTING PISTOL.

It would group 10 shots into one hole a 25yrds.

And I have NO Problem taking any Mark l or Mark ll or Mark lll apart and putting them back together.

It just takes a simply twist of the wrist.

Looks like a sweet gun. I've had 5 Ruger MK series pistols at one point, but never that SS 6 inch standard barrel. The longer sight radius coupled with lighter barrel appears to be good combination of accuracy and mobility. Congrats.

To OP and other members:

Just takes patience the 1st couple of times. Remember to use some padding against the frame or non metal tools when you’re pulling the mainspring lever out. I’ve seen more dinged up frames when people use screwdriver to pry the lever out.
The front sight is replaceable but you need to vise up the upper and punch out the cross pin. I think Dawson’s Precision makes a fiber-optic front sight. Good Luck!

I did too. Ordered it in (I think) late '81? mine was a blue 6-7/8 target. Great shooter but I sold it here after I got a pair of model 41s..shoulda kept it for field work. Best model Ruger ever made.

DEFINITELY a Mk.II. I have a Mk.III, and it looks NOTHING like that.





And of the two, I'd RATHER have a Mk.II! MUCH easier to take down, and reassemble. GOOD score there!

Congrats on your new purchase. Don’t feel bad if you can’t shoot 10 rounds into a single hole at 25 yards. I find that many people exaggerate a lot.

I have 2 S&W Model 41’s and a High Standard Victor and shooting CCI Standard from a rest, I was able to shoot about 3/4” groups. I don’t believe a Ruger Mark 2 or 3 can get the same results but I could be wrong.

A 1/16th roll pin punch will remove that front sight. Fit your new favorite front sight in the slot, carefully drill a hole in it. Tap in the old roll pin and enjoy.

Putting it back togeather requires it to be held upside down at a certain step. Little attached pin flips to the right position and then you close it up.

Unless you can remember that kind of stuff; I'd write it down and leave the instructions in the box for cleaning.

I had a mark ii forever ago and used to hit things with it my friends couldn't hit with their rifles... even lying down when I was just standing...

Majestic arms makes a bolt kit that is removable that allows the bolt assembly to slide from the rear of the upper receiver without having to split the upper and lower.

I'd install them in my rugers but it's not compatible with the volquartsen trigger kit.

I use a 35yr old MTM Range Box. It has two small cards tapped inside the Lid.
#1 is a wallet size card I got from NRA 30+yrs ago. It shows how to move adjustable rear sights for S&W, RUGER & Colt handguns.

#2 is a laminated Xerox of the disassembly/reassembly page for the Ruger MK 2, as you get older you tend to forget small details. Five Concussions don't help.
