Remington 700 questions
I am finally getting around to doing some work to my 7mm mag ADL.
This is going to be a hunting rig only. I will be replacing the stock and have some questions. Can all dbm's be used on any stock that has a hinged floor plate? Is stock inletting required for all aftermarket triggers? I am looking at a used H&S precision stock, i think it may be a factory take off. Any reason why i cant put a hinged floor plate on it instead of the dbm? UPDATE::::::::::::: PURCHASED THE H&S STOCK.......SELLER SAID IT HAS FLOOR PLATE.

Most DBM will not fit a factory floorplate without inletting. You can swap floorplates if they are factory inlets like the HS Precision. Be careful though since there was a factory DBM setup Remington used on some stocks.

You need to match up the bottom metal with the inletting of the stock. As you are starting with an ADL, you know that it does not have ANY bottom metal, just a triggerguard. The next step up will be a factory remington BDL inlet. That's probably what your H&S stock will have. The BDL inlet will accept remington BDL bottom metal. BDL has a drop floorplate to dump the rounds out of the fixed magazine. Then there is Remington's DBM system which uses a special stock inlet and a Remington magazine. These are uncommon and not very reliable. If you run into a stock with notches on the sides of the bottom of the magazine cutout, that's probably a Remington DBM setup. I would avoid them today. There are several other detachable magazine systems which often fit into a BDL inlet, but they are all based around non-standard magazines. I can not recommend any of these. Then you have the M5 inlet as designed by Badger and copied by most companies that make a bottom metal for a 700 footprint receiver to accept AICS or AW magazines. This is what I would recommend today to anyone that wants a detachable magazine system. Not all aftermarket triggers require additional inletting, but some of them certainly do.

I am now thinking this just a HS stock for a sendero.
I don't have any pictures of the bottom of the stock. The seller tells me it has a hinged floor plate that he needs. I don't want a DBM for this particular rifle, I wanted to know If it was a DBM inlet would a floor plate still work. Randall------I am guessing the Timney "thin" triggers will Work without mods?

If the stock is a sendero stock, it will have a BDL inlet, not a DBM inlet. It would have to be a Sendero DBM model to have the DBM inlet. The DBM inlet looks like this: Any of the single lever timney's will drop into BDL stock inlet and BDL bottom metal just fine. The double lever triggers (calvin elite) often need extra clearance.

Yes.
The thread spec will depend on the barrel diameter though. Some barrels are too small for 5/8-24 threads so they get threaded 9/16-24 or 1/2-28.

The real accuracy international mags are the nicest. Accurate and Magpul are not as well made and the prices reflect that. I'm not sure of the mag length, but you can't use the 338 mags with 7mm and the CIP length mags won't fit in AICS DBM. You want an AI 479 to use with that DBM.

Hi Kevins750,
Is there reason to modify your Model 700 ADL? How does it shoot? When was it manufactured? I had a friend who owned a Model 700 ADL 7MM Rem Mag. He bought it in the 60's when Rem couldn't keep up demand for the Model 700 7MM Rem Mag. He placed an order with his local JC Penney sporting goods manager. The manager called him when he received a Model 700 7MM Rem Mag. It was an ADL. He jumped on it. My friend never modified that rifle in any way. As he grew older, he developed a rotator cuff injury. He asked he to assure it was zeroed prior to our leaving on a Rocky Mountain hunt. That rifle was among the most accurate rifles I've ever fired. It was dead on at a hundred, about 2" high. All three rounds could've been covered by a nickel. He had other rifles, but his Model 700 ADL 7MM Rem Mag was his primary/only hunting rifle. He used it on everything. He never brought a back-up. His rifle never failed him. |
