H&K rifles
Here's one of mine. MR556 geared up to be kind of an M27 IAR clone. Longer HK rail, Acog, KAC sights, atlas bipod, vfg.

Funny, you started this thread, I just got an MR556 upper and am building it up. Too bad I did not get a whole MR556 rifle before years end last year, but I got enough "pre-ban" lowers that I will be building upon them. I have a Noveske Gen II that will be built up with as many HK parts as possible (OTB Buffer tube, A5 slimline stock etc) but for now it sits on my KAC SR-30 lower. Just got a Geissele rail for it the other day. I hated the HK Keymod system that came with it.

Excellent Sir! You will enjoy that! Take a look at your bolt and barrel extension. You will notice drain hole in the bolt carrier, and a nub inside the right side of the barrel extension that supports the extractor and helps prevent extractor blow out. All parts of HK's otb design. The buffer tube you mention has drains in the rear end, and if you get the actual HK stock, it has drains in the butt pad. Be sure and use the kit included HK buff with your setup. I have experienced zero evidence of carrier tilt wear in any of my HK rifles. Thx for sharing you picture. I really enjoy these rifles. And they stay super clean and cool.

Also, your bolt lug should work as a wrench to loosen your rail through bolt if Geissele made the bolt head to the same spec as HK. On the MR series they used an Allen head, but on the 416 series they used the cross Phillips style like on your geissele, designed to be loosened with the bolt lug in the field. My long replacement m27 rail came with the proper 416 bolt. Both bolts can be bought from HK parts, and easily swapped if you prefer Allen or Cross pattern.

Yea, I saw the OTB benefits and although I ain't doing a frogmen stuff, if it has the features built in why not. I am running the HK buffer and spring.
I know you can take out the handguard screw with the bolt carrier, but I have real tools to do the job, so unless I am in the field without them, I am keeping away from using the bolt as a screwdriver unless I absolutely need to. The system does run cooler longer than a DI system thats for sure. Although its not anything intense, I did run a 120 round string in a 30 min session as fast 1 round every 3 seconds and 10 round mags would allow me. Minor heat build up in the handguard, but otherwise, pretty smooth. It also is not particularly picky with ammo. It has 240 rounds down the barrel so far with a mix of brass and Wolf ammo. It shoots about as soft as my LMT MPR, but not as soft as my KAC upper. The upper weight I am sure is a contributing factor to that though. Yea, other than the weight, it has become my new favorite AR. Making it into an A5 style package is very close given the control package of the KAC lower. I also got a DBAL I2 for it. Although I am not ashamed to admit it was for the look. Getting a proper pair of 2+gen NODS will eventually happen. But for now I will sight in the visible green laser. Question for you: What forward grip are you running? I kinda like the more rounded ones like the Tango Down and Troy. I am hesitant to go with the Troy since it will add even more weight. But that one you have is close to the look of one and it looks to be polymer? Last edited by yf19ex; 08-28-2017 at 4:41 PM.. |

Leopold mk4 tactical scope, tmr reticle and tenebraex killflash.
Triad tactical scope cover. Ashbury precision mil issue tripod. The whole setup is stupid expensive but it's great glass, a pleasure to use, and is better than blowing it on strippers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I have 3 of them, all different, and really like them. Absolutely tough as nails. I'd bet money you could drive a nail with one and not hurt it. That said, I have a couple Elcan 1x4x and those are by far my favorite military issue combat optics. They don't seem as tough, but the glass and functionality are second to none. Very very nice. I have a second MR I'm wanting to have the barrel reprofiled to 416 specs. Just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. They are fantastic rifles as is, but wouldn't mind taking a little weight off the front.

They are def heavy but also heavy hitters! I've got mine dialed in. Not the most precise weapon but the most reliable. I've got a spare bolt, firing pin and piston tucked away in the grip.

Lots of haters! That's because they are ridiculously expensive and near impossible to obtain real 416 uppers. HK doesn't cater to civilians, mostly all military. There's a reason that top tier military groups use them as their go to weapon of choice. There are about 100 real deal semi only 416 lowers out there but are going upwards of 5-10k

Sure thing sir. With optics, I'm a firm believer in buy once cry once. I just can't stand inferior glass, whether it's binos, rifle scopes, spotting scopes, or camera lenses. Years ago while on vacation in Hawaii, I ran into a park ranger who had this same spotter mounted on a mono pod. He was letting whoever wanted, to check out the volcano caldera through it. The scope was absolutely beaten to ****. Dings, dents, scratches, paint missing. I was like, hey wtf happened to your spotter. He said every week some kid drops it on the volcanic rock. It still worked perfectly, just looked like it was hit with an ied. I bought one as soon as I got home Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
