16" heavy works real well on my 10/22 and Savage Mk2 fvsr. No need to go longer unless you're after a bench only 22lr IMO.

I have read that 16” is the max velocity out of .22 rimfire ammo.
I dont see a downside to going longer, and i like the look of a longer barrel.

Just food for thought...
I have an old 1940's Remington model 37 that has a 28" barrel. It is the most accurate/precise firearm I own. The scope is the only limiting factor, so yes the barrel length does seem to matter. It dresses out at 14lbs wet and ready to shoot. Bench rifle. Sent using a long string and 2 used soup cans
