Default The Plate Carrier Thread - Part II

Can’t post in the original thread since it’s so old so I’m starting a new one.

Finally ditched my Eagle MBAV and got the Crye JPC 2.0, it’s so much lighter than the Eagle it’s ridiculous.

Plates are ESAPI and they are TIGHT in the Crye plate bags.

Also got a screamin’ deal on the Ops-Core FAST Maritime helmet, it was used as a display and since this line was replaced by the SF helmet I got a big discount.

I got a question. How do you get low to the ground with all that gear attached to your chest and abdomen?

Grab your E-tool and dig a small trench?

Ha,ha. I was thinking the same thing. Cool stuff but definitely not my bag. I’m slow enough as it is.

I actually prefer to keep reloads on a belt, I’m just trying out the Crye mag pouch.

I like the front of my carrier as slick as possible.

I’ve been looking for an ISAPO vest for my PASGT flak jacket but they are impossible to find. Any suggestions of some similar carrier to fit over the flak jacket?

Eagle made a minimalist carrier that was part of the SFLCS kit, I have one somewhere.

Let me look for it, I’ll never use it again.

Here it is, if you want it you can have it just pay it forward if you have something someone else needs.

The blue paint is from sim rounds, it will wash off but I’m lazy.

This is a front and back plate bag only, there are no provisions for a cummerbund or side plate bags.

Nice, I have TACO pouches on my belt.

I may ditch my Crye pouch for a regular MOLLE flap so I can mount a couple of TACOS if I ever wear my carrier without my belt.

Never heard of Spiritus Systems, that looks like a nice, light carrier though.

Curious, do most of these plate carriers have pouches for sideplates? I don't think I'd feel completely safe without sideplates.

My carrier only has Level III-A soft armor in it. I value mobility over stopping tank rounds at my stage of life. If someone wants me with a rifle, they'll probably get me. In the big city, I'm more worried about .25 up to 9mm rounds, primarily.

Typically you have to add pouches for side plates.

Most carriers will have MOLLE on the sides of the cummerbund.

I run a Blue Force Gear ten speed pick on front, it's flat as flat can be.... But you can carry three mags if needed. I also have a chest rig and belt set up for different circumstances.

If you HAVE to get low, the last thing on your mind is a couple mags strapped to your chest.

But that's ALSO why I DON'T do double-decker pouches. I KNOW how to get low, but the center mass of me always has other ideas!

Scarab with a DC3R micro wont be here till October though

I will post pics when it gets here.

That is the beauty of wazoo tactical stuff like high end body armor and helmets. In many cases, it just needs to look good for photo ops and hung up in the man cave next to the Molon Laabe poster and Gadsden flag. Working / training while wearing it is hot and uncomfortable, so it ends up just being an expensive prop.

Good thing I actually wear my gear.

The only way to know if it works is to try it out.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who buy expensive kit just to keep on a stand to look at.

Those people are going to be in for a rude awakening when the time comes to put it all on.

I use First Spear. I had “something” from Bulletproofme.com and it was awful. The plates were 10# each and the front plate was painful to wear. I upgraded my plates for a 50% weight savings. The new First Spear carrier is amazing. I can wear it all day, even while just typing on my computer.

I agree. Take your carrier to rifle class and test it out. Wearing for 8-12 hours a day for two to five days will demonstrate all the shortcomings

First Spear makes some high speed kit, I met the guys who run that company at SHOT when they first hit the scene.

Those guys have BTDT, and they know what works.
