Default Aimpoint M4s for my M1A Scout?

I was thinking of getting an Aimpoint M4s for either a home defense AR or to use with my M1A scout. I think a red dot is just a nice simple setup for home defense with the AR platform rifle, but I am thinking about outfitting my M1A scout as well. Would this fit either well in your opinions?

My budget is about $800-$1000.

Sounds like a great idea. Look into one of these mounts to bring the dot a little closer. Also look at the AimpointT2 for a more streamline low profile dot. Trijicon MRO has great glass and will withstand the .308 recoil as well.

Sure, but make sure to get a 3x magnifier on an American Defense Mfg twist mount.

Or, you can try the Aimpoint PRO for a lower cost.

On an M1A scout mount? It won’t fit and eye relief won’t work.

OP, I’ve run an Aimpoint M4 on a scout and it was great. Cheek weld was a bit of an issue but I fixed that with a cheek riser.

I’ve since moved onto a Leupold 2.5 scout scope with long eye relief.

I was never a fan of the scout mount. About 10rs ago I added a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x on my M1A, with the Sadlak mount and Larue QD rings. I had to add a cheek riser as well.

I would do some research, since I can't speak to how good the newer SA mounts are. Depending on what you choose, that budget you are listing will shrink after mounts and rings.

RD on a M1A du jour is shooter's choice. I have and like the Aimpoint M4. Not on my M1A's tho.

I wouldn't use a 308 for home defense unless you have a HUGE sqft house or quite a few acres to defend. Never use 308 ball ammo for HD either. Even most hollow points will zip right through things you'd rather not put holes in at typical HD ranges.

556 rifle (with m193 ball ammo as a minimum) will serve better to repel boarders.

I have an older comp with a low mount on a socom and UltiMak rail. Works pretty well.

UltiMak eliminates the need for a cheek riser.
