Default IDPA Matches

Going to shoot my first IDPA match. I want to go into the CCP division or similar. Has anyone here shot IDPA match at the Richmond Rod and Gun?

Richmond IDPA is low stress and lesser wait time since its a smaller match. Good luck, enjoy and glad to have you : ).

Does Richmond require everyone to be an IDPA member.?

No you do not need to be an IDPA member.
The IDPA guys are a friendly bunch. Tell them it's your first match when you sign in and they will take care of you.

Richmond is a great place to start and very low key. You might also want to check Ukiah. They are a smaller match, but again, very friendly. The Ukiah folks are also very willing to answer questions and help during your match. Just remember wherever you go, make sure to tell the MD you are a new shooter so they can put you with some people to help. Also let the RO on your squad know.

The main thing is to just be safe. No one is going to care about how good or bad you shoot as long as you are safe. If you have any questions about the course of fire or anything safety related, you gotta ask.

Have fun.

If we're going to start naming other local IDPA clubs...especially that far north...let me add North Valley Shooter's Asso. in Gridley

I’ve been wanting to attend Richmond IDPA myself. Please post an after action report. Don’t you have to be IDPA qualified to shoot ?

You do not need to be an IDPA member to shoot their matches.
They are a very "new shooter" friendly range.

25 spots left for Sunday.

You really should come out to shoot the match.

We're generally very kind to new shooters...after we get to know you, there's no mercy

Default Great Match

I shot the Sunday match and had a great time. The last 2 of the 9 stages for my squad were shot in the pouring rain which was very tough but fun. The participants ranged from newbies to seasoned vets and everything went off without a hitch. Richmond puts on a great & safe match and I encourage anyone on the fence about competing to give them a try.

Thanks again to Jules the MD and all the support staff.

Regards,
Mike

Easy to say for the man who came prepared with an umbrella

I really enjoyed shooting with your crew...and the deviled eggs were delicious...it really was a fun match and a good introduction for newer shooters

If you're interested in a bit higher level of competition, you should consider coming up to Sacramento for one of our two sanctioned matches.

The Reloaded match (Tier II) in May has stages we've shot from various matches around the country last year

The Western IDPA Regional (Tier IV) match is in October with some of the best shooters in the nation attending

9mmepiphany...

Hahaha, I had a feeling this might be you. You crazy wheel gun guys were great to squad with and thanks for all your RSO help. Everyone from down south had a great time and will hopefully be back for the May match. Those little protein bombs are all that keep me going when in cardboard assassin mode. The wife says thank you for the compliment!

I am currently trying to move things around to make the Reloaded match. I got the match book from 2018 and was impressed with the stages. Our mutual friend has been giving me grief since last years match and it's time to take the plunge. Hope to see you there!

To everyone still on the fence about coming to an IDPA match...
  1. Take a deep breathe
  2. Get your gear together
  3. Signup on Practiscore
  4. Come early and tell the MD you're new
  5. Be safe and have fun
You will not be disappointed. The only issue you will have is kicking yourself on the drive home for not doing it sooner.

Regards,
Mike
