Default 3D printed Tavor grip fin

I've finally listed the fin on Shapeways. Sorry it took so long for those who've posted or msged me. I've been busy with finishing school and it's been nuts
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/random-thoughts?li=pb
Shapeways doesn't offer it in FDE or ODG unfortunately (that would be pretty cool), but I've made a white option available so you can try dyeing it yourself with some Rit dye. There's some formulations available online to achieve something close to those colors.
I apologize for the price as it costs quite a bit to print on Shapeways. The fins cost me about $31 a piece to print myself, so it's been a pain in the butt to get it to this point. It'd be nice to get my own printer, but FDM printers don't have the same finish, and the SLS printers they use are probably about $1mil each.
I'm open to any feedback!

P.S. I didn't print myself a left handed version because I was frankly tired of all the money I spent on this and I thought it'd be a waste to have a fin I wasn't going to use. It should fit the same as it's just a mirrored version of the right-handed version, but nevertheless, it hasn't been tested. If you're willing to be the first to test it for me, please msg me before ordering it and I'll send you $20 once you put the order in.

Awesome, thanks Scott! Please let me know how it turns out. Since I only have my gun for reference, I have a fear that there might be some tolerance differences between guns or batches. It's an irrational worry, but I'm a perfectionist.

Click the link and place the order.

I believe Jason made this specific for the Tavor Sar, I don't know if it will work on an X95.

Yeah, Scott's right, it's designed for the SAR. It'd be fun to design one for the X95, but I don't have the time, money, or gun to do it Maybe someone will take up the challenge?

We're working on a 3D printable featureless option for the X95 and will release the design under Creative Commons license once completed. We encourage all compliance parts manufacturers to follow suit.

does this grip connect to the top of the grip or stock in any way or just in the bottom plug? I ask due to a recent conversation with DOJ Ive had about fin grips.

It connects via just the bottom plug, but I added a little lip at the top to prevent slipping your thumb through. You won't be able to get your thumb through without it hurting a lot, or maybe breaking the plastic.

Overall the 3D print quality, texture and fit is great. The thumb shelf safety is easy to manipulate and makes a big difference in grip strength. The low profile ambi safety fits well also, but I preferred the thumb shelf safety.

The grip is attached in the bottom grip plug. It has zero flex toward the right side of the rifle, but can be flexed some toward the left. I plan to get a 6/32 or 8/32 screw and drill and tap in the corner to fix the top of the grip. If the grip is removed later the small threaded hole would be hard to see, and could be filled in with a shorter set screw.

Even without the screw it cannot be flexed enough to to get your thumb around it.

For $57 for both safeties and the fin shipped to the door, not a bad value at all.

Getting a cheap FDM printer would allow you to rapidly prototype without spending $31 per print... kind of the point of them.

Man that looks pretty sweet on FDE. I still have some pangs of regret not getting mine in the same color.

Awesome pics btw. They're better than mine! Good call on the screw, that's a pretty good idea. Do you think it'd be an issue without it? I added that sliver of plastic so that it'd make it impossible to get your thumb in there without breaking the fin but fixing it would be more definitive. I could change it a bit so that there's a flat area to tap a hole if you guys think it's better that way.

reverser, I did initially prototype it with a FDM printer But I had a local shop print them for me since owning a FMD printer is like owning a vintage car, enjoyable to use, but only when it runs. I had to print a few through Shapeways since the tolerances and material are a little different. I had to adjust the fit down between the fin and the buttcap, the locking tab sizes, the thicknesses of the locking tab spring material, and I changed the geometry of some of the curves to be more aesthetically pleasing. I changed the little funny face too so it's more visible

Hey Pappy67, I just realized that I posted the safeties swapped around. You have the left side one on the right. That's my bad, so I'll send you $10 so you can order a right sided one if you want. Please PM me your paypal. I'll swap them around on Shapeways.

I plan on keeping the thumb rest safety on there. I actually liked the low profile safety as shown, in the fire position it is rotated up and does not work interfere with the trigger finger. However you may want to increase the size of the selector arrow or move it higher or both, it got caught by the detent when I switched it back to the thumb rest and broke off.

HK1904, what muzzle device is that? I like the whole setup, looks sweet. It hides the fact that we have to meet certain OAL requirements.

Me too, the black trimmings on the FDE give it a nice contrast. My fin and thumb rest should be here tomorrow.

BTW, hold off on ordering the fins for now. There seems to be enough worry about compliance with the silly law so I've added a brace to go against the side of the gun to prevent the shark fin from flexing. I'll probably put up both versions so you can choose from each, but if you wait you'll have a choice of which one you want.

For those who've already ordered a fin, I made an adapter part if you'd like to add it on. You'll have to drill a hole in the fin and provide your own nut & bolt. I'll list these at cost since it was an afterthought.

I've just ordered the new parts, so they should be here in just over a week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I received an additional little square bracket with retaining clips, and no clue where it was supposed to go. I'll get a closeup shot of the extra bit tomorrow.

Maybe it got swept into my package by mistake.

Oh that's weird, that must have been somebody else's print that got wedged in there. The workers were probably wondering where the piece went after printing haha. Kinda like how the dryer bandit steals your socks

I can tell ya the extra bit had me scratching my head for a few minutes.

If I haven't already said it in an earlier post, I'll say it now: your work is superb. This thing is piece of art.

These look awesome! Are you guys pinning these fins inside the grips?

Just worried about it being to easy to remove. I know during SSE some FFL used a plug like this with a two piece steel block that would expand as you tighten the bolt creating a ultra tight "permanent" fit impossible to remove by hand.

It snaps into the stock grip retaining holes just like the stock grip cap. Can't be removed without TWO tools.

I got mine today and I don't think the flex is a problem unless there is some concern of breaking. BTW, it fits perfectly and almost looks like it belongs on the rifle. Have you ever thought of making one for the Magpul MOE grip?
