Default What sidearm is allowed on CCW?

Hi all. I'm working on a project for Santa Clara County SO. I'm asking members to respond if they know what limitations the sheriffs or chiefs put on CCW sidearms. Caliber, type, etc.

Going through 58 county formats is overload. I'm taking the easy way and asking you all to just tell me!

Many agencies don't have standards on their CCW pages. I'd appreciate the info.

Each issuing agency is allowed to determine their own guidelines for approving handguns to be listed on the permits they issue.

There is no standard on what is allowed, each issuing agency is allowed to determine their own requirements on what they will approve to be listed on the permits they issue.

For San Bernardino County Sheriff Department...
1. No caliber smaller than .25 and no caliber larger than .45 will be approved to be listed.
2. Handgun must be registered to the permit holder or permit holder's spouse.
3. Handgun must exactly match it's AFS record (make, model, serial number, caliber, barrel length, action type).
4. Maximum of 3 handguns are approved to be listed on the permit.
5. Pistols with a fixed magazine will not be approved.

I'm setting up standards for consideration. You know...no 454 Casuls, no Thompson Center Single Shots. etc.

It's not rocket science, just trying to see if some county has extreme restrictions.

We'll probably just settle on standard calibers/types.

As I said in my original post - I'm doing this for the SO. They are formulating a program for applicants.

Thanks. From what I see -and have found out...somewhere larger than .32 and not larger than .45 is the general theme.

My county has no caliber restriction, up to 10 can be on the permit, spouses can list each others guns on the permit, multiple calibers can be listed for the same gun, and no restrictions on modifications

Torrance PD only requires that the pistol/revolver be registered to the applicant in CFARS. There is no limit on how many, but the applicant must qualify with each one.

FYI, many other states just license the person, and does not require any information about the weapons. This would be a much less intrusive requirement and require less work for the police/sheriff.

Any restriction on the Inalienable Right to keep and bear arms is extreme. What part of, "...shall not be infringed..." is so difficult to understand?

Why not be a leader and just go with any legal firearm the permittee deems is sufficient and reasonably concealable?

Yes... I'm of the opinion this study is BS and the sheriff should be an American man and not push these jackboot thug laws on fellow American Citizens. If this sheriff wants to carry an ar pistol around as his truck gun I expect he will be listed as "more than equal" and will have no issue with that " concealed weapon ".

Or god forbid he has a sidearm getting repair/maintenance and he uses another ..same exact model different serial numbers as a carry that day.

Just say no to arbitrary rules of what "tool" your "allowed" to save your or your families lives.

What reason can you logically make for a limit on what firearm I'm "allowed":to use for LETHAL force?

Why should we support helping restrict another citizens carry? This is distasteful.

Madera at the least.
