Can someone clarify if LAPD actually limit the guns to 3 on your CCW application?
On the application it has room for 3 listed guns but in the instructions it states you can list more on a separate paper. Thanks -H |

No. There's no limit listed on the paperwork. The 3 gun limit is what LASD used to have but it is no longer on their paperwork either.

Are you sure this is the case? I currently have 3 on my LASD issued permit, I’d love to add two more without having to remove two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes, LASD also didn't allow amendments to the firearms on your license except at renewal, but that has also changed. You are now allowed to make amendments at any time.

Maybe everyone else understands this thread, but I don't.
The OP asked about "LAPD" limiting the number of handguns. Does LAPD issue CCW permits, which is the city's police department. All the answers seem to be talking about "LASD", which is the Sheriff's Department. I do understand LASD and every of the 58 counties should be issuing permits at this time. I suppose it's still unknown as to whether LASD limits to 3 or not as nobody answering has answered having 4 or more handguns on his/her permit yet.

Yes, LAPD is now issuing CCWs. The LASD is referring people in the LAPD service area to apply directly with LAPD. The applications are practically the same. I still did not receive a definitive answer if there is a limit or not. I do suspect, however, that there is no limit. |

I think i will just submit the application with the additional pages attached. I'll follow instructions on the form and let them show me where it says there is a limit.

All of LA County(including ccw issued by LASD and LAPD) are limited to 3 firearms. I just completed training and this subject was brought up during our classroom session.
My understanding is, what HAS changed is that you can now change a gun you have on your CCW for a different gun at anytime, whereas in the past you couldn’t do that until your renewal date. If you do decide to switch one out, you’ll have to re-certify with the new weapon. I’m thinking of switching out a G17 for a 19, and trying to figure out if I need to sit through the classroom portion again or if I can skip it and go straight to range training. i just called to setup the interview and they called me back the next day to confirm. Said there are 1700 people ahead of me and it will be a few months before they call me again to actually schedule the interview.
Maybe something will change by then, at least since there is nothing in writing about the 3 gun max. It not, it is what it is. Quote:

I will find out from LAPD when I pickup my permit about the 3 guns limit and whether or not they're allowing add/remove guns before renewal. Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk |

LAPD Shooting Proficiency Standards Form. This form contains only three (3) slots for firearms.
LASD Training Requirements. Firearms Training, 1st para, last bullet entry. Quote:

This sounds like an old policy of the LASD instead and the shooting proficiency paper has not been updated. |

The application you are referencing isn’t specific to the LAPD or the LASD. It is the State Application which, under statute, must be used by all Issuing Agencies. (The upper left corner of the form shows the CA Department of Justice Bureau of Firearms (BOF) seal and the BOF 4012 Form Number. The application was last updated in Aug 2022 to comply with the Bruen decision.). The last sentence of the first paragraph states, [I]“Penal Code section 26175 requires the Attorney General to prescribe a statewide standard application form for a CCW license.[I] The State Application doesn’t limit the number of firearms as they let the IA make that decision. Section 3 provides: “List below the weapons you desire to carry if granted a CCW license. You may carry concealed only the weapon(s) which you list and describe herein, and only for the purpose indicated. Any misuse will cause an automatic revocation and possible arrest. Use additional pages if necessary.. The field contains only three slots. This is not LAPD or LASD policy; it is the State’s Standard Application for CCW. The state form doesn’t drive IA policy, but IA policy will tell you if, “additional pages are necessary.” The LAPD and the LASD shooting proficiency sheets are similar and both limit the number of guns to 3. The Trainers must submit these results to the IA. Instructors don’t get to alter the forms and remain approved instructors. LASD was updated in 2020 and the form is consistent with the LASD written instructions on the website. Since LAPD wasn’t issuing until after Bruen, it’s a good bet that they simply used the LASD format. Quote:
Regardless, the current form limits training to 3 guns (and there’s no provision to add additional sheets.) Having said all of that, perhaps there have been further changes. However, the current state of published policy limits guns to 3. The State Application doesn’t drive or influence that decision.

In Ventura County we can have up to five but we can only add or subtract at renewal, which is a bummer. I bought my two new additions to my permit middle of last year but haven't been able to carry them until now that my renewal is up.

There was someone issued by LAPD recently and posted in the LASD thread.
The license only had room for 3 firearms and the policies he uploaded shows only 3 are allowed. https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...ostcount=14647

In used to think 3 guns was minimum needed. After 10+years of ccw daily now I dont believe that.
I was a micro9/jframe/g19 Now I'm g19 and jframe with about 95% of the time g19. I will admit I do want my ar pistol under my seat on longer road trips but the county says no and now the criminals at ATF are really screwing us again.
