On the renewal application...

IMPORTANT: To renew an Arizona concealed weapons permit, the permit holder shall submit a renewal application, no more than 90
days before or 60 days after the date of expiration.
○ If submitted prior to 90-days before, the application will be returned

I'm waiting for 90 days out. Do they care about the above at all?

I would submit right at the 90 day mark. I did that this year for my renewal and they didn’t process it before the expiration. I actually had to call them because mine was expired.

I gambled and won, see Post #226....

Depends upon how important not having an expired CWP is to you? Worst case scenario, AZDPS simply returns your renewal application to you.

Need to call my contact and find out why AZDPS is backed-up again after having apparently eliminated their previously huge backlog of applications!

I don't know that they're necessarily backed up, it seems to be a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. Everyone that has called and endured the lovely hold music has been essentially issued over the phone. As posted previously, mine only took 7 days from application drop off to issuance/mailing. I would encourage those still waiting to call, you'll be on hold between 30 mins-an hour and a half, but after a 2-3 minute conversation the card will be in the mail.

You may be right. I emailed a day or two ago, and mentioned it had been over 160 days since they received my app. I got the auto-responder saying they probably won't read my email, but I just got another email stating it would be sent out Monday.

I called today and finally made it through after being disconnected twice after the automated message. I mailed mine back on April 18th and the lady confirmed receipt on the 21st. She let me know it’s currently in the background process and everything is being processed in the order received. So roughly 154 days pending so far.

I sent in my renewal two months ago (give or take a day). I called today, she said there is a huge backlog and mine was in the cue (she seemed a little annoyed, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that has called her about the same thing).

For Florida, I have to take another training. They didn't take my training for CA CCW as proof or the training person I used. Have to save up and make time to do that.

Glad AZ went constitutional carry so when I visit and my permit has not yet been renewed I am covered. My other permits cover everything AZ does so its not really any loss to me if there is a delay

My renewal was 7 months in 2021. COVID crapola delay
I called for status 6 months in and they answered professionally.

No problem calling for your status

If you plan on CCW in Nevada having Arizona is worth it for the reciprocity alone.

I seem to remember that NV decides not to recognize AZ every other year. Things could have changed somewhere but idk.

It is no longer true but it was true at some point in the past. I can't remember the exact year because it was several years ago. I went and got the NV permit for that reason. When my NV expired I didn't renew because they were accepting AZ again.

NV was a pain to get because it required training done IN Nevada.

Looking at the new application, I don't see where you can sign and send in a DD-214 showing Military Service, which waves the training requirement. Did AZ remove that? When I applied for mine a few years back you had a separate form to sign and attached a copy of your DD-214

Mine had a second page, this is what you filled out:

(Print name of organization, governmental police agency, or branch of military)

I further attest that I have reviewed and am knowledgeable of Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13, Chapter 4 and Chapter 31.
X
Applicant’s Signature Date mm/dd/yyyy

The new form doesn't have that Training Section showing you can use Military Service. This is the wording on the new form

I attest under penalty of perjury that all statements made on this application are true.

I attest that I have satisfactorily demonstrated competence with a firearm through completing a firearms safety course provided by: __________________________________________________ _____________________________________________ I further attest that I have reviewed and am knowledgeable of Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 13, Chapters 4 and 31.

By signing this application, I agree that any fee overpayment of $10.00 or less will be automatically donated to the State General Fund. Any overpayment of over $10.00 will cause the application to be returned for payment adjustment, and the application will not be processed until corrected.

I always understood having to supply a copy of your DD-214, they need to verify you were no dishonorably discharged.

The new form doesn't have that Training Section showing you can use Military Service. This is the wording on the new form

I always understood having to supply a copy of your DD-214, they need to verify you were no dishonorably discharged.
If you read the instructions on page one and the link I provided you SHOULD see the DD214 is usable.

Here's my timeline for non-resident AZ CCW (new, not renewal):

9/14/2022 - mail application
10/20/2022 - received AZ CCW in mail

No emails, phone calls, etc. Just filled out application, attached copies of front and back of driver's license and California CCW permit, copies of CCW training forms from California CCW, attached two completed fingerprint cards.

They cashed my renewal USPS money order Thursday after receiving it only last Saturday. Seems like a good sign of improvement on processing time.
