Legoland was GTG this afternoon. No one checking bags or wanding. We have a yearly pass and usually the mornings are no go. This is the second time this week we went in the afternoon and was gtg.

Another post said SeaWorld was gtg. But, the first post in this thread said it is not... which is it?

Anyone ever carried on the Catalina Express? Website states you can legally check in a declared unloaded firearm, but are there metal detectors when boarding?

Really depends on what time of day you go. I’ve gone in the morning when they have metal detectors and in the afternoon when there wasn’t a soul in sight.

I was asked if I was LEO, and because I was not, the person manning the metal detector asked me to return my firearm to my hotel or vehicle. The metal detector took a picture and identified exactly where I was carrying concealed. Monterey Bay aquarium is a no go.

It is probably mentioned above, but I was at the Rady Shell for a concert last weekend, and they check every bag, and wand every person. Ankle carry _might_ get through, but they do also clearly state that no weapons of any kind are allowed on site.

Know before you go...

That must be new. I was there July of last year and carried without issue.

A few years ago, Hollywood Bowl Security Manager had me stow my off duty weapon in their gun locker.

I had just gotten off duty and met up with my wife to see a band play at the Hollywood Bowl. Walked up to security and wanded my waistline. Of course it goes off. I told him that I was carrying an off duty weapon. He looked confused and worried lol. I told him to relax, get on the radio and tell his supervisor to come. His supervisor arrives and I explained to him. He calls over a uniformed LAPD officer. They both escort me and my wife to the security office where they have gun lockers. LAPD Officer was like,” yeah I’d be carrying at this place too but unfortunately we can’t.” Filled out a slip, locked my weapon and enjoyed the concert. Retrieved it at the end of the night. This was a few years ago, not sure how it is now.

That, generally, is how things ought to work.

But imagine when that gets to be common knowledge. Then the storage rooms need to be actually secure and manned by armed guards. Venues see 'liability' and 'expense' and will choose to deny entry to any guns, as most do now.

Update: Took the Catalina Express to and from the island this past week. No security of any kind. Carry as you see fit.

I've got the same question as I'm headed there next week. Hopefully someone has been recently and has the answer.

Yet another good reason to not give Disney any hard earned dollars.

Going to a HS football game at the Santa Ana bowl next month. It's not attached to any school that I can see but is surrounded by Federal buildings. Anybody know if they have metal detectors to get in there?

Do they have metal detectors at the LA Natural History Museum? The one near California Science Museum which has none. The surrounding area is iffy so I wouldn’t want to leave my firearm in the car.

Their website says
Quote:
Medieval Times does not allow weapons of any kind (real or fake!) into the Castle.
How that is enforced, I dunno.

I have not been in a very long time; IIRC, adults paid then what kids pay now.

Any updated info on the Oakland Zoo? A previous thread from 2016 said it was good to go. Is that still the case? Thanks!

Minimum wage bag checkers can be uneven - I did that job for 15 summers, and I got a lot better as I practiced. But it's usually newbies who get that assignment, with some experienced folks mixed in.

I bet they have walk-thru metal detectors for hockey games, since I'm pretty sure that's an NHL rule.

I wish more venues had that info so easily available.

alcazar theater in SF is good to carry. Called them before going because I am taking bart and asked if they allowed off duty carry. The guy said it would be fine, they don't have metal detectors.

They do check covid vax status though.

It seems to depend on what time of day. In the morning they are usually checking bags and doing walk through metal detectors. I have not carried there but we usually have a stroller and diaper bags and such. Those items are searched and do not go through the detectors. The search is not very thorough and would be easy to circumvent should one want to.
