I will be visiting SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts) next weekend. Any wanding or metal detectors? I really don't want to leave my CCW in the car anywhere in SF.

BTW, I just got back from the Palm Springs Air Museum. The Museum was AMAZING. And, there are no metal detectors and no bag checks...

How many of you reading this thread would or would not carry based on this list?

Be honest. Do you not see what is happening - right in front of your eyes?

Right on this forum we have people willing to create lists of where you can carry a CCW, people few others know if at all create and then add to some list and then others accept that list as some go-no-go. It comes from being conditioned to accept only something someone says as to whether or not you can do something instead of the way it's supposed to be.

These are people, supposed gun owners who support the 2nd/A yet there they are running to the Internet to create lists. And we wonder why things are as they are? Look at all the threads asking if someone can do something because they can't find some list or link that says they can. In the absence of some list or link they are hesitant because they are ill informed, don't want to be informed or too darn lazy to figure it out.

It used to be the liberals who had bumper stickers that said "question authority". Now it seems so many of those who consider themselves conservatives won't take a crap without someone else saying it's ok.

This list is about as shameful as it gets.

Get this straight, if you go somewhere and the list says you can't carry your are good with that not knowing who really said it? If it's on the internet it must be true?

Then, you go somewhere and they don't honor your CCW and you still go because it's fun, someone else wants to go and so on? Then why do you have a CCW? If you are willing to go anyway and not carry then you are perpetuating behavior contrary to what supposedly we are are against right? Instead simply don't go. You think the BGs are going to stay home? No, they will carry anyway but you will go and ignore the very reason you have a CCW - in effect disarming yourself for convenience or to eat at some certain diner or attend some event?

You continue to write as if this thread is somehow prescriptive. It's not; it lists places where others have described their CCW policy.

My personal solution: as you suggest, I do not go where I cannot carry. But sometimes I do not know I cannot carry, so prior experience posted here can warn/reassure me.

But anyone is free to ignore what is posted here; statistically, nearly no one in CA will have read it and all will have happily made whatever decision they like without its input.

Kindly allow others the right to assess their own needs and risks, and act as they perceive their best interests to be. That people will make different assessments from you or me is just the way it is.

I got a good one for you all down here in the I.E.

Canyon Lake HOA. If you are visiting or business related visits, the security Nazis are now demanding to know if any weapons are in your car. I just stared at them and looked back at my hooks and chains on the back of my tow truck and said, "well yes, yes I do". They also demand you license and sometimes a second form of ID like car registration. Since the tow truck is registered to the company, I had to have the supervising goon escort me to the Post Office truck and then back out the gate...

F them. We now charge double our rates for anyone going or coming from that snob lake.

California Science Center: No bag check, no metal detectors.

One of the exhibits does have a thermographic camera you can point and a display screen. Ask me how I know. LOL

SF Moma is good to go.

The Fox Theatre Oakland is not good to go.
The Masonic Theatre SF has metal detectors and search
The Concord Pavilion has metal detectors and search.
SAP Arena in San Jose has metal detectors and search.

Kaiser is dependent on location, same with Sutter hospitals. Got wanded seeing my wife in emergency in Sacramento but waltzed into Kaiser.

On 2/18/2022 (today) I visited the San Diego Zoo. There were no metal detectors, wands, or any other attempt to actually exclude weapons. The Zoo is still good to go for CCW. Their prohibition does not have the force of law.
As an aside, not all knives meet the CA definition of a weapon, but so far none of the venues appear to know the difference and attempt to interdict all knives
Finally, for Librarian - magnetometers have sensitivity settings - if I cannot carry, I do not go. My decision to carry at a venue that attempts to exclude weapons includes my analysis of how effective the security measures are likely to be. To me, the value of this sub-forum is getting that information so I can decide to carry and go, or carry and go somewhere else.

The Bakersfield Centennial Garden/Convention Center/Rabobank Arena is a no go, even for off-duty cops.

I searched the thread for "Moscone" but came up empty.

Does anyone know if the Moscone Center in SF has metal detectors or wanding?

Thank you!

I think that's 'by-event', so need to check with the event sponsors.

I went to SF Museum of Modern Art when it first opened and I would only re-visit if forced at gunpoint.

DO NOT leave your gun in the car in SF; I think there were more than thirty thousand car break-ins last year, (30,000), unsolved.

West Sacramento; RiverCats minor league baseball (SF Giants affiliate).
-Clear bags only (Vendors sell them outside)
-Metal detectors
-Wands

I put all of my pocket litter (wallets, change, phone, etc.) into a gallon Ziploc bag. Dropped it into the tray and it was passed around the detectors.
--The bag also contained a black KN95 mask which held my EDC knife. (Masks have value!)
-As I went through the detector, one of the security guys told me to hold my wrist watch against my chest over my heart.
--I didn't and the alarm sounded.
--Stepped back out, held my watch against my chest and went through without an alarm.
-The wand guy on the inside was ready for me, then stopped and asked, "How did you do that?", but didn't wand me.

Grabbed my bag and put all of the crap back into my pockets.

Nice evening, but the 'Cats lost.

The exhibit is over, so perhaps this does not matter, but...

The event was in the Wyland Hall, and there were no metal detectors or bag checks of any kind. It was easy peasy...

I knew a guy who worked for a bank. Whenever they installed a new metal detector, his boss asked him to bring his "tools" in. They were unloaded in a bag. So they used the different ones to calibrate the metal detector. The theory was a loaded one would be more likely to set off the alarm.
