Default LAPD CCW PICK UP RESCHEDULE

LAPD Called me at 8AM and advised my pick up will still be today but between 5pm-7pm at LAPD's downtown office. It was mentioned something about logistical issues prompting this last minute change.

Default JOURNEY COMPLETE: LAPD CCW TIMELINE (UNDER BRUEN STANDARD)

JOURNEY COMPLETE: LAPD CCW TIMELINE (UNDER BRUEN STANDARD)

6/23/22: Supreme Court Bruen Decision came out. Called LAPD for an appointment.

10/5/22: LAPD interview appointment at 9am. The interviewer said I was the first in L.A. to interview under the new Bruen standard. I did my live scan submission the same afternoon on my way home.

10/9/22: I did not wait for the proceed to training call and did my 8-hr training class on this date.

12/6/22: LAPD called and said I was "approved" and now I can proceed to training. I said I already did my training on 10/9/22. The officer said to email her the certificate of completion. She did not ding me for not waiting to receive the proceed to training instruction.

12/15/22: Received this letter in the mail from the LAPD https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CnW...ew?usp=sharing saying I was approved and to proceed to training. This letter was just a formal way of saying I was approved which the 12/6 phone call I received already informed me verbally.

1/11/23:
LAPD called and asked if I can come to the police academy to pick up my CCW on 1/17/23 between 10am-12pm.

1/17/23: Day of location was changed to LAPD HQ 100 W. 1st St. between 5pm-7pm. Picked up LAPD CCW permit. They had our batch of initial 9 people which was the first batch said the officer in L.A. to get LAPD CCWs under the Bruen standard (I was #4 to get one issued to me) sign acknowledgments:
Page 1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I7_...ew?usp=sharing
Page 2: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i3P...ew?usp=sharing
Here's how the LAPD CCW permit looks like:
CCW Front (the photo is the same as my drivers license): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Tvp...ew?usp=sharing

CCW Back: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10JS...ew?usp=sharing

1/18/23: Discovered another (3rd!) typo on my LAPD CCW, eye color is listed as "BLK" but it is not. I made an appt to come in to get a 3rd replacement card not including the initial one so that is four cards total under my name. Also not a big deal but I will ask to have this corrected, the LAPD address on the back has "Los Angeles. CA" but it should be a comma instead of a period as in "Los Angeles, CA"; the other two typos which they reprinted my card twice while at the initial pick-up location yesterday were misspelling Issued as in "Issused" and misspelled my street address.

*Good timing since I am going to Las Vegas this Thursday, 1/19 - 1/23 so I don't have to lock my firearm in the trunk in a case with a lock and keep the ammo separate from the firearm anymore in California and wait until I am in Nevada to CCW with my NV permit. NOW I can CCW straight from California into Nevada with my firearm on my person for my entire trip across state lines from LA to Las Vegas.

Congrats!!

Did they print out the card on the spot or did they already have it ready?

Also doesn't appear they require you to inform you're carrying if pulled over.

They have a printer on some other floor since there were typos on the CCWs being a new process, so they misspelled my street name and redid it, I waited; then I noticed "Issused" was misspelled and should have been "Issued". So they reissued me a 3rd one. All the others before me who did not notice mistakes such as "Issused" will need to go back and get re-issued. I always proofread docs I receive.

I asked the officer, they said you must notify the cop if pulled over for example you have a firearm and CCW. Your permit # is your driver license number but a cop will not know you are CCW with your DL only, the CCW is under each firearm listed and need to look up gun serial # to see your CCW. So cop won't know you are CCW unless you notify or he looks up serial # of your listed firearms.

Could be the reason I wasn't called in for the first batch was so they can just work out the bugs, or my file was incomplete on their end for whatever reason. I should be getting a call any day now. Either way I'm glad I got in early, the backlog is looking pretty bad at this point.

Typos aren't the end of the world, as long as you're in the system. State law actually does not require you to have the permit on you while carrying though most if not all IA's do require you to.

I've been waiting for an appointment since October 2022. I emailed them in November, they said it would be a "couple months." I emailed again 1/30/23 and still haven't received a reply from that email.

That is a great thing! So happy for you youdon'tkillmoney! Shouldn't be such a big deal but it is a big deal. May many of hundreds of thousands Angelenos follow in your steps, LA is a hellhole of crime and violence and the more people who carry, the safer it will become.

Default LAPD CCW Complete timeline

06/27/2022 Called LAPD. Bruen came out Thursday 23rd. I called Monday 27th. At the time the person answering said they were just taking names and numbers.
10/10/2022 Got a call asking if I wanted to make an appointment. 10/17/2022 was available but for scheduling reasons I had to defer it to 11/07/2022
11/07/2022 LAPD interview. Took about 10 minutes. I gave them my proofs of residency etc. I did my live scan on my way home.
12/01/2022 Got a call from LAPD that I was approved. Received the approval letter in the mail later that week.
12/10/2022 Took my training and qual and e-mailed them in.
02/02/2022 Got a call that I could pick up my permit from LAPD HQ on 02/07/2022 between 5pm-7pm
02/07/2022 Showed up at 5pm. In the lobby a plain clothes officer asked me if I was there for a CCW. I said I was, she led me to a room where another officer had me sign some documents and in less than 10 minutes I was DONE, permit-in-hand!

FYI, They told me to make sure I contact them 90 days prior to the expiration date for renewal.

Congrats!

My timeline is not far off, I called on the 6/27 as well, got a call back on 10/7 but had to schedule interview for end of November. Got the approval exactly one month later, submitted training docs on 1/6.

Still haven't picked up yet, was supposed to on 2/7 but there was a paperwork error and the chief only signs it twice a month. Hope to have it by the end of next week.

UPDATE:

Oct 22, 2022, 11:52 AM:
Email sent to ccwprocessing@lapd.online requesting interview.

Oct 24, 2022, 12:52 PM
Response from LAPD informing me that my phone number was added to the list.

10/26/22, 4:04 PM
Missed a call from "Private Number" and emailed them asking what would happen if I missed their call. They replied 10/27/22 stating that they would leave a voice message to return their call.

Nov 25, 2022, 8:56 PM
Emailed them to check status of my interview. They replied on Nov 30, 2022, 9:20 AM, stating, "You should be contacted for your in-person appointment in the next couple of months."

Feb 1, 2023, 5:17 PM
Emailed them again, asking for an update on my interview. Getting close to the time where Gavin wants to basically outlaw CCW. Fingers crossed...

2/21/23, 11:09 AM
Received a telephone call from "private number"; it was an LAPD deputy calling me back after I left a message asking if it was their phone call that I missed on 2/19/23 (My phone notified me of a voicemail. When I checked the voice message, it was barely a blip of someone's voice and no number was indicated on my incoming call log. Thanks, T-Mobile). Checked my phone log, and I do see a call from La Cty MTA on that date. She then asked me if I was still interested in an appointment to go over my application, and confirmed an appointment available on May 23rd, 2023, at 8:00 a.m., at the academy by Dodger Stadium. Was told to bring my unsigned undated application, photocopy of my driver's license, two copies of proof of presidency, and a personal check, cash, or money order for $53 to "City of LA".
