So if you follow Sage Dynamics

The only red dot as of the latest update to his paper without a failure and over 10,000 rounds is the Holosun 509T

The red dots with over 10,000 rounds on them with only 1 or 2 failures reported are the:

Trijicon RMR type 2
Holosun 507

If you follow Scott Jedilinski, as of September 2022, his favorites are the Aimpoint ACRO P2, Steiner MDS type 2 and the Trijicon SRO

Personally I have and have used RMR type 1 and type 2, Doctor, J Point, Shield, Holosun 407, 507, 508, 509, Aimpoint ACRO p1 and p2, Sig Romeos and the ones that have broken are the Doctor, J Point and cracked lens on a Trijicon RMR but still holding zero and useable. Sig Romeos have poor battery life. Aimpoint ACRO p1 is a 6 month battery life. Holosuns will last a year and I am changing batteries on defensive arms annually.

Currently my favorite pistol optic is the Holosun 507K ACSS Vulcan because I can range with it and the chevron does not look like a laser designator dot/spot.

I have run the Holosun 508T on my Glock for about 2 years. I have taught many classes with it, banged it around, carried it at work and off duty. Never a failure or loss of zero with a bunch of rounds through it. For regular duty use, this is a good sight. I have an RMR on another gun which is great too, but I don't like having to remove the sight for battery replacement.

Aaron's new 2023 paper is out.

Also look to some of the Holosun SCS EPS direct MOS mount options...they let you use the Glock OEM sights!

Glass optics are like a set of high end new Ping or TaylorMade golf clubs. A sihty golpher will buy them, but instead of improving his game in any way, he?s still just as sihty at golf, only now he owns an expensive set of clubs.

Basic Trijicon night sights for the win. For most, glass optics are over rated if you know how to shoot fast and on target already.

Holosun 507k on a Glock 19. If you're still working make sure it's approved by your agency. For us the Glock also had to be factory MOS, you couldn't have it cut for the optic.

For those who can do 1000 rounds/month or 10,000 rounds/year they have built subconscious competence and that natural point of aim and confirmed it with live fire, irons are probably good enough.

For those who do not do the repetitions, the optic is a single focal plane - e.g. you are looking at the target/threat and the dot is just in your eye-line superimposed on the target/threat. If you deliver a proper press, the round will impact the target/threat where the dot is covering.

The biggest barrier to running optics is poor trigger control...the optic can not solve a poor press. One of the best benefits of optics on pistols is dry fire work...if the dot moves during dry fire and the shooter is paying attention...they are not delivering a good trigger press.

...and a golf course is a tragic waste of a rifle range...

I would think most folk are like me-I went to red dots because my older eyes made that front sight too blurry.
