Do these primers look OK to you guys? 929 / *** UPDATED PICTURES ***
My bone stock S&W 9mm 929 was getting light strikes on Winchester White Box, even with it's 24 pound stock trigger pull
So I installed an Apex extended firing pin, Apex comp rebound spring, and a Jerry Miculek main spring. I also switched to factory Federal ammo. it's much lighter, with 100% ignition. But the primers look like this. Are they ok? (in case you're wondering I'm obviously not a gunsmith, I just wanted to shoot the damn thing before I brought it to one ) Last edited by ysr_racer; 09-21-2019 at 10:20 AM.. |

no picture but do these pants make my butt look big? sorry bad pun.
I would say without a picture that if they light 100% of the time do not worry about thought I do not know why you need as exstended firing pin that may cause pierced primers? |

I don’t think extended firing pin is necessary if you use federal ammo.

Those primer strikes look like what an aftermarket firing pin, would leave the dents like. It also looks, like the clip on the left, you may have pulled the trigger 9 times? I know because I've done that before and they leave a larger crater. ..

Same set up shooting hotter ammo would not be acceptable. Because the hot gasses would cut the recoil lug/FP of your pistol. If it were mine. I would lightly stone a few thou off the FP nose. Shoot/check. Rinse/repeat. Until it no longer pierces primers. |

I won't use white box ammo any longer.
I had to many odd, unexplainable light firing strikes with no bang that I've never before or since had with other factory ammos or handloads. White box is the only ammo that has not gone bang in both of my Shields. |

Two things stated above....
"If it were mine. I would lightly stone a few thou off the FP nose. Shoot/check. Rinse/repeat. Until it no longer pierces primers." IF yer gonna leave the extended firing pin in, then this along with making sure that the tip is rounded and free of any protrusions or nicks. "I don’t think extended firing pin is necessary if you use federal ammo." BINGO! It also could be that a thicker moon clip would help with the original firing pin. We are only talking thousands of an inch here. Pierced primers not only mar the shield, it also will nick up the firing pin, causing replacement often. |

One light strike? Give single action a try. It hits primer harder than double action. You can discuss it with Ray at Iron Sights. He can tune it.

I think you need to get moonclips that match the extractor groove of the cases you're going to use.
The best "fit" for WW cases is seldom also optimal for *FC* cases...that is why moon clips are available in different thicknesses

Yeah, Winchester ammo barely fits in a 0.35 clip, where as Federal ammo fits nicely.
