Default Blackthorne Upper assembly on sale? Yes, No, RUN!

Flame suit on!

So I got a sale event emailed to me by Blackthorne. One of the items is a 20" heavy stainless barrel upper assembly (no BCG) for $209.00. Roughly half the cost of some others.

I know Blackthorne has a bad rep. I have bought a Galil part from them (scope mount) and the product worked out great. I needed another one & had to buy it off eBay since Blackthorne sold off/ran out of all their Galil parts.

Anyway, worth a shot (pun intended) to try it out?

I got a cheap Delta Team Tactical upper setup. it is defintiely Chinese junk..... fit and finish suck.... but it will probably work. the CH barely locks into the upper, as the little slot is not very crisp. but it's on a pistol upper, so.... meh.....

just a toy anyhow....

PSA has uppers for not too much more, and my PSA stuff is way better than the DTT I got......

Is there a shortage of AR parts nowadays? Did PSA, Midway, Brownells, Primary Arms, Turners, etc stop doing sales all of a sudden? Did Trump sign a gun ban yesterday?

There's so many reputable vendors with such low prices, I don't see the point in taking a chance with Bubba's Fencepost & Gun Parts. But, your money.

What does ammo cost per case?

Why mess around with a questionable assembler of unknown components?

How much are you saving????

The question is how much are you willing to spend to replace out of spec parts? The uppers are notoriously unreliable and out of spec, and the BCG is a crapshoot. The barrel is probably Bear Creek, so probably ok, but who knows? The other parts are all going to be Chinese imports, so it is what it is. My worry would be the gas block and gas tube. It may run fine, but may not. Why risk it?

I was just thinking about it since they sent me the email. I wasn't looking for this type of upper but have been toying with the idea. What I'd really like to get is a piston assembly or maybe a side charging upper.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I’d shy away even more from piston or side charging. The more complex the more likely a problem.
