2018 June CA Sheriffs election
Since I focus on liberalizing CCWs, there were fewer than a dozen races I cared about. From what I gather reading posts...
(north to south) Sac: pro CCW Jones won San Mateo: pro CCW Melville lost Santa Clara: anti Smith will be in runoff in Nov against anti challenger LA: pro CCW Lindsey lost SD: Myers lost (but Gore liberalized issuance last fall) Anyone hear about Yolo, Sonoma, Ventura or OC? Did the (relatively) pro-CCW candidate win or lose?

Sacramento County Sheriff
Of course, votes still need to be counted and many elections still need to be "called," but I'm certainly hopeful that the Sacramento County Sheriff results continue trending the way that they are and that Jones wins! I'm really looking forward to getting my training/certification and obtaining my Sacramento County Concealed Carry Permit!

In Sonoma, Mark Essick appears to have won. The Press Democrat said "He is the sole candidate to say he would expand the criteria for issuing permits allowing people to carry a concealed firearm to allow more people with demonstrated safety concerns to be armed." http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/82...county-sheriff How far will he expand the criteria is anyone's guess, but even if he only makes Sonoma Co one color "better," that's an improvement. My guess is that given he was willing to say that during the campaign, that he'll take it to at least yellow, maybe light green. Taking one of the remaining "red" counties to non-red makes Sonoma our biggest "win" I've heard so far -- and I haven't heard of any "losses" (a winner who says he'll make his county more restrictive). baggss, who's in Ventura Co, said a pro CCW guy won, so there shouldn't be any change there. Barnes won in OC. He may be even more pro CCW than Hutchens! ETA: pro CCW Sheriff Ferrare won reelection in Solano Co.

San Joaquin County: Pro-Withrow beat Pro-Moore
Interesting that Moore just turned pro CCW right before the last election when Withrow was also challenging him. Withrow actually came on here and posted up in the CCW by county forum. Also interesting that Withrow is a registered Democrat and Moore a Republican. |

Folks in Santa Clara Co need to step up to help Hirokawa win over Smith if they want any chance of improving CCW issuance. I'm sure he could used donations ($,$$$) and volunteers. (Bring the kids along, for a family adventure, they might be able to get school credit for it too!)
