Any experience in lake county? Sheriff Martin has a reputation for issuing them pretty easily. I mailed mine in on 1/31 and am waiting to here back about my app right now.

Friends on the SO say that the Sheriff believes that we are all safer when law-abiding citizens carry. So I'm assuming yes. I used trail-running alone as my reason.

Far as I know ... Sheriff Martin (Lake) and Sheriff Allman (Mendocino) are cut from the same cloth of CCW. And Tom Allman is THE BEST CCW Sheriff bar none! - And yes, in Mendocino we are 2 words Good Cause and 2 words Good Cause only "Personal Protection".

In fact Martin's dad Rick Martin was a preferred customer at Diamond Jim's back in the day 1999 thru 2004 when I worked there. Rick Martin worked for Dist. Attorney Office, Mendocino then became a Judge in Lake County Superior Court and also (at the time) helped at CCW Training & Refresher with Ray Higbee at Ukiah Gun Club.

So ... Sheriff Martin comes from good stock as they say up in these parts.

Rick Martin - BEST Judge EVAR ...!!!

Interview went well. It was with the undersheriff. He gave me holster advice that works well with female anatomy and typical fem clothing, and said he didn't see any reason for the sheriff to deny me.

Letter Dated 3/14 arrived today 3/18

Dear Ms ______,
I have recently completed reviewing your application for a CCW permit. I am approving your application, and I wanted to take some time to thank you for assuming this responsibility. I am a firm supporter of our Second Amendment rights, and I believe that the right to defend one's self is not only a legal right, but a basic human right.

People like you in our community, who are willing to take on this responsibility, make Lake County a safer place to live. Thank you for accepting this responsibility and keeping our county safe.

Respectfully,

BrianL. Martin

The Sheriff is good people! Enjoy the training, those folks out there teaching you are there to make sure you don’t fail. Very informative!

Bring multiple layers of clothing. It was cold two weeks ago! Bring your lunch and plenty of water

Thank you. I've been spending a lot of time at the range making sure I'm ready. A good friend took me out and showed me what the qualification shoot is like. It's likely that I'll know at least one of the instructors so I'll be comfortable.

They go out of their way to make the process as painless as they can, despite the CA laws.

I'm pleased with 99% of what I learned in the class. I think I only got a teensy bit of bad info (not being allowed to lock my gun and ammo up a few blocks away then drive onto the school parking lot or even in the school zone to pick my child up despite what the CA PC actually says). The instructors and range volunteers were friendly and helpful, offering advice on adjusting stance, grip, pull etc. It should come in the mail in a few days. All paperwork, including signing the permit and getting a photo taken were completed at the range.
