Default Informal action pistol match

Not affiliated with IDPA/IPSC etc. Just fun with timed handgun and 3-gun stages. You DO NOT sign in at the Range Office but with us at Range 1C. We need more people! We cannot rent the range with less than 5 or 6. Small group = big fun, though, for 8 or 10 people!

Hey, guys. It’s that time again. Our next shoot is Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Burro Canyon Shooting Park, Range 1C. That is the first private range across the parking lot from the range headquarters trailer. Setup starts at 9:00 AM and we should start putting rounds down range by 10:00 AM. Stage 1 will be an interesting handgun skills test involving 4 strings at a single target.

Stage 2 is an oldie, but a goodie, the classic El Presidente.

For Stage 3 we will add some movement and use of concealment/cover to engage multiple targets.

Our 3 gun stage will be a return to the “Zombie Apocalypse” for an exciting and fun challenge.

Guys, this is an important match to make it to. We have had to cancel our last few matches due to low turnouts and we are in danger of losing our ability to reserve the range for future matches. If you can get out to make this match it will go a long way towards showing the range management that we can be counted on to keep our commitment to having a monthly event at their venue.

As always, if you know of anyone who would like to participate, bring them along, as well as letting any members I have left off this email know that we are shooting on August 11.

Thanks.

Allen

We run by the normal rules with timer and safety officer. If it has rained and the fire hazard is low, they let us use our steel poppers and plate rack, but usually silhouettes with maybe a hostage or two and perhaps barriers and/or cover. Bowling pins and sections of 4x4 for knockdowns. We keep score, usually time plus penalties. The club has been around a long time, moving to Burro after Fish Canyon closed down. We had our own container at Fish Canyon but still have a couple lock boxes at Burro. We have a lot of gear.

Remember - it is this Saturday!

It is a great way to get your feet wet or simply to get familiar with how most matches are structured. Range commands and procedures follow most sanctioned matches. But - we are a small group with no big egos and are out to have fun in a safe manner. We start at 9 AM and are usually done by 2 PM, though we have the range all day so guys often stay and shoot after the match. We run the match every second Saturday of the month. It looks like we have at least a couple guys from this forum showing up on Saturday.

No holster or not too many extra mags? No problem! Start from low ready and we will give you time to reload mags while someone else shoots as many times as you need. No rifle or shotgun for the 3-gun? Just bring a box of .223 and 12 ga shells and you can use one of our guns. We warmly welcome newcomers and beginners - it is how we all started.

The match is tomorrow - I hope to see at least of couple of Cal Guns people there. High up there at Burro should be around 80 degrees. The range we use has a couple big shade trees, too.

We had a great time. Only 5 shooters so we had the range all to ourselves for the whole day. We ran an El Presidente and a couple other handgun stages, including one based upon the recent hostage situation that resulted in the death of the hostage. Our former LASD instructor and often "designated shooter" Harold gave us a rundown on options in that situation. Harold is retired and now runs a a business training casino and hotel security staffs. He also won the National Police Olympics shooting events for several years running and finally just stopped competing. Harold also taught us another CQB shooting method.

We are an informal group, so this is not an event for a seasoned competitor. We are out to have fun, safely. If you want to have fun, learn the basics of how a match is run and maybe spend the rest of the time sighting inb your firearms, practicing drills or whatever after the stages are run, you should come out. Bruce, a CalGunner came out for the first time and raved about how fun it was, and could not understand why more So Cal folks don't come out. He lives in the Bay Area, but will shoot with us whenever he is town on the second Saturday of the month.

By the way - the weather was great! About 80, a nice soft breeze and very comfortable under the large shade trees in the staging area.
