Klein v. OR BoLI (Gay Wedding Cake case) is another socially & politically controversial case. SCOTUS first started distributing the case back in mid Feb, the last time on June 10 for a June 13 conference, until just GVR'ing it on June 17. This, yet again, shows SCOTUS often delays releasing decisions re. controversial cases until the end of their sessions.

SCOTUS docket: https://www.supremecourt.gov/search....ic/18-547.html

Wiki page re. case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klein_...and_Industries

SCOTUSblog case page: https://www.scotusblog.com/case-file...nd-industries/

They've decided 49 cases so far with another 20 still pending. They are scheduled to release more opinions on tomorrow (Thurs) around 9:30 to 10 am (EST).

I have not been keeping track of this lately, but did they have orals on this or did they skip that?

Should we expect a ruling this session?

TIA

Next fall. This session is almost over. Oral arguments have not yet been held.

You're welcome.

I haven't looked at that list, or updated it, in a few years. (I don't get paid for my work here.) I'm sure many links are dead, many pictures removed. But even still, if you ruminate/mediate upon the facts of those cases, you can gain a lot of practical self-defense wisdom.

Remember: you don't have to be Politically Correct with your family around the kitchen table, in how you behave or with whom you choose to associate or not associate. We still have a little freedom/liberty left....

The Opening Post shows the current status of the case (as most OPs for most cases do).

In the first full week of July SCOTUS should announce when they'll hear this case next fall.

New York just passed a bill at the state level in an attempt to moot the case.

The bill's sponsor also introduced this bill on Monday in what seems like an attempt to fix issues with the original. However, the state senate adjourned without the bill advancing.

Video from when the bill was brought up in the NY assembly. The legislator who introduced the bill seems to pretend that this has nothing to do with the Supreme Court, and that he just felt like being nice to gun owners in the city.

New York City finalized their rule change today, with an effective date of July 21st.

Additionally, here's the video from the Senate vote on the state's attempt to moot the case.

Senator Ortt rips the rule change a new one basically calling them out for trying to skirt repercussions from SCOTUS.

Is there a chance SCOTUS disregards this law and proceeds with the case? Since they probably know NY tried to moot it.

Perhaps. I think there has to be some kind of admission that their law was unconstitutional, which they haven't done.
And it this late stage its rather obvious why they did it.

I hope there are no mass shooting ever, but especially not before the oral arguments for this case. Even though public pressure is not supposed to influence SCOTUS, Iím sure it still does. If something like Vegas happens before the oral arguments in this case, Iím afraid it could severely limit how broad the ruling would be.

The city and state may do what they try to do, but the second circuit has no avenue to moot the challenge to the garbage arguments they used to uphold the law, and application thereof, as it was when challenged.

THAT is the real problem before SCOTUS.
