The SD9 is a good option. If you're not a fan of the trigger, you can also opt to get an Apex trigger for the SD9 later on. You can probably get the SD9 and an Apex trigger for less than the cost of a G19. The ergos of both guns are different so you should go into a shop and hold them both - see how they feel in your hand, or beetter yet go to a range and rent them both... run a few mags through each.

Off roster but still very affordable the ruger p series pistols are rock solid. Ive seen them from $300 to $400. Heavy clunky but built like a tank and absolutely reliable. Ive also seen some star firestars around that price that ive heard good things about.

What is the purpose of the front rail, but a laser or light.
If so than you can also check the Ruger 380 and 9 mm line.
They too, can be integrated with a laser or light.
I would call it ultra compact to be your back up gun.

That reminds me. I think they stopped making them, but the Ruger SR9 was decent little fun. Not sure if they have a rail or the cost. FN-9 P was also pretty ok.

Fnp is a great pistol really like mine very accurate and reliable. But now that they are off roster prices have climbed up a bit on them

I use a Glock 19 as my back-up to both my run-n-gun, Beretta M9 and my every-day carry, Springfield EMP. It's a cheap little cute pistol that works.

50-yards for me now is controlled pair range. A few weeks back at a tactical class, was shooting pairs from the draw at 6.0-sec par and making contact to the silhouette around 50% of the time. My goal is to bring the groups down to the upper A/C-zone.

They say that the trick is accomplishing a one ragged hole on a 1-inch square target at 5-yards.

I did the 1 ragged hole at 5 yards. But that was a few years ago and my eyes were better as was the body.

This was with my Les Baer .45 ACP. You may recognize the target.

My thought. The SP2022 is a great little lightweight 9mm. At one time it was the unofficial handgun of Calguns.

$500-ish it's a lot of gun for the $$$ but still a bit pricier than some.

That little pistol got a lot of love on here back about 3-4 years ago. Before Sandy Hook, we got ours for $375! Then, about a year afterwards, we got another backup SP2022 for $465.

They're a great gun. The DA is tough to get used to though. It would take a lot to practice around that. That is what led us to ultimately sell them. We've gone to the Glock 19 (rubbish) and then the Shield (tiny) and finally the XD9/XD45 (great!!!). The SA trigger however was very nice!

This is a great suggestion, the smith and Wesson Shield is also pretty inexpensive and reliable at around four hundred bucks brand new
