-Barnes doesn’t become sheriff until Jan 2019.
-The statute requires Good Cause to exist for issuance of the license.
-The 9CA has found the Second Amendment of the Constitution does not guarantee the right of gun owners to carry concealed weapons in public places.

Other than that.........

You still need to submit a good cause statement.

You'll still need a Good Cause statement. The real question is what will he accept as sufficient good cause. He could simply accept "Self Defense" as good cause as other Sheriffs do an move on, or he could require something more stringent. It's his decision.

He has overseen the CCW unit until now, so hopefully he doesn’t get stringent. Most of his votes came for that reason

Sorry if this is already covered in the last few pages (I didn’t see it), but it looks like the website has changed.

Here’s the updated website: http://www.ocsd.org/about_ocsd/services/ccw

What are the chances there was an uptick in applications on account of the looming election?

Online CC transactions require special handling, usually through a third party purveyor like Cybersource. If they're not properly setup to handle them, or don't want to absorb the costs of doing so, they are likely not going accept CC payments online.

CC "merchant services" is a can of worms. DAMHIK

FYI-
Sent in my training cert on Nov. 18th and received notification to pick up my card sometime after the 1st. No appt. necessary.

Seems the OCSD is running pretty smoothly on renewals these days.

I was told the reason they don't take credit cards is that some applicants would pay the fee upfront, get denied a permit, and then OCSD would have to refund their money and get hit with chargeback fees. So they'd actually lose money on the denials.

I'm going to add a new caliber to my permit next week. Will I qualify on the 72-round plan, or the 20? (I want to have mags prepped and whatnot before I go in)

Cheers.

20 rounds. Your qualifier will instruct you on want they want you to do. Loading a mag takes just a few seconds.

Just another data point for the thread:

CCW class at Artemis before applying;
Applied in October, 2018;
Interviewed a few days after application was filed;
LiveScan completed within two days of interview;
Permit received early December 2018.

About 55 days from application to permit.

New CCW
10/23/18 Application submitted
10/24 Initial Interview
10/24 Live scan
11/7 CCW Training Certificate Submitted
12/6 Approved for pick up

Everything was pretty easy. I ended up emailing OCSD on 12/3 to see where I was at in the process, and they responded same day that I had just been submitted for final review. And was approved 3 days later.

Easy-peasy compared to what the OGs had to go through.

Default The race is on...

I'm trying to add a gun to my permit before I take off for some holiday travel. I picked up a G19 at 12:30 today, got my training cert at OnTarget around 5, and submitted the amendment request online at 10PM... I'll post again when the new permit is ready to be picked up! Fingers crossed!

IIRC there is an $11 fee for amending the permit. That is per amendment, as opposed to per firearm added?

The instructor of my CCW said that he'd added pretty much all his handguns to his permit, even if he had no real interest in carrying them, purely for the benefit of being able to transport them in a vehicle without hassle. But as an instructor, I'm sure the certification is trivial for him; maybe not if one is paying a private range (and/or an instructor) to provide certification of competency.

Just started my renewal process. Seems like its a lot easier now using the online form.

Im surprised to see new ccw holders are being issued in a month; I think it took me 5-6 months to get my initial ccw.

Man, these new permits aren't as robust as the old ones.

I like the format of the older ones to. Blah.

No still plastic but seems thinner.

I compare the old one to a credit card quality and the new one to an elementary school ID quality.

The layout of the information looked nicer to me on the old design to.

Any idea how long it’s taking now a days for the livescan results to come back?
I had my appointment on 12/7, did the live scan the same day. I received an email from the investigator stating that’s all he was waiting for. All in all he entire process has gone smoothly and quickly, never thought the hang up would be on the live scan results.

They are probably slow due to the holidays. Patience grasshopper!

I called the DOJ. They said there was a problem a couple a months ago that is causing this delay. Spoke to someone at the OCSD CCW unit today and they said it’s been taking about 4 weeks to get the results back. The entire process in Orange County aside from the wait for the live scan results is running very smoothly and quickly right now. The people at the OCSD CCW unit are very good and helpful.

It's probably been posted somewhere else in this thread but you can check your Livescan results here. I don't know if things show up at the DOJ end (and in results reported by that link) at one time, and at the OCSD at some other time. OCSD said the Livescan results are automatically received by them; I assume this requires the application to be correctly populated and the Livescan roller to key the numbers/identifiers in accurately.

So wife and I are making the move to OC this summer. Is OC still ccw friendly with GC, and if so how long must I be a resident to be able to apply?

Hello Noranjen, Yes they are. Come on down and get your CCW in Orange County! you just have to establish proof residency, so once you get your
DMV drivers license, auto registration, utility bill all updated showing OC address, you can apply.

I called OCSD CCW unit today to find out if they received my Livescan results since it was the last thing they were waiting for. They said they received the results on 12/28 and it’s at the final approval stage since 12/31. My initial appointment was on 12/7. Just have to patiently wait now. I gotta say they are doing a great job over at the OCSD.

Wait 'till Newsom finds out what they're doing....oh dear god there's gonna be hell to pay. LOL

"You're issuing permits for bad people to carry guns around the state? We can't have that!"
"Wait, they're vetted citizens?? Oh, that's even worse!"

I don’t think there is a exact time frame, but not long. Maybe a week for some. Depends on if he catches anything that needs to be fixed I would guess.
