Default Vehicle Gun Magnet Mount

Looking for a good magnet mount for the car.

There are a ton of to choose from, so I was hoping you guys can let me know what you guys use and has worked well for you.

My main concerns are how well the magnet holds the firearm in place. Also looking for one that won't damage/scratch the slide.

TIA.

As you noted, there’s tons of similar magnets, just pick one with the higher # strength rating. I got mine from Amazon a few years ago, supposedly from a military vet business.

They have rubber coatings so scratching isn’t an issue.

Yeah, they're all coated, but if you find one without any rubber coating but really like it, just wrap or glue a cheesecloth over the magnet.

After reading about the Miami FBI shooting in the 80’s, should you have a crash- will the gun stay in place?

The FBI agents lost guns in an impact. Criminals- now upset- came out shooting.

Keep your gun in your holster. Get quality training.

This.

California state law says you can't leave your CCW firearm in the vehicle unless it's in a locked box. The more you handle your loaded firearm the higher the possibility of negligent discharge. Get a good holster, put your loaded CCW in the holster and fuggaddabboutitt.

CLEARLY you have an older vehicle. There are damn few metal surfaces in my '92 Ramcharger, and NONE in my '07 Jeep Commander!

Your CCW allows you to conceal the gun in the car. You will need to place the magnet in an area which conceals the gun. That's going to make rapid access problematic. if it isn't concealed, you are open carrying. That's illegal.

Separating yourself from your gun is always not a good idea.

What if you have to egress your vehicle in an emergency?

What if you get in a wreck? (read the FBI Miami shootout)

What if you get pulled out of your car?
