Default Liquid propane for $1.90 a gallon at Costco

I was stunned when I went to get one of my propane tanks refilled at Costco here in Henderson. In FL when I went to a nearby pool/patio place, a fill up would be $15-$20. My cost on Sunday for a fill up was under $7, for a little over 3 1/2 gallons. I've never seen it so cheap.

They started this in LV/Henderson over a year ago. They do a good job of it too. Only drawback is they don't fill the tank full, over 4 gallons, like they did for me in FL. Reading about it here, someone said they only put 3.6 gallons when completely empty. Still, Costco is only ten minutes away and I have two of their tanks. Best part is they charge by the gallon, not the fill up, and it's only $1.90 a gallon right now.

From the sounds of things, they've been doing this for years, but the one we go to in Henderson started no more than 2 years ago. The new one in Henderson that is only 10 minutes from our home had it when they opened.

are you sure it was a full tank

sometimes they only put in 15 pounds

then charge you like a flat $9

super deal though i go to a place that charges like $2.69 a gallon but they fill it till it mists out the vent so like $12.50 a fill

No. I read Costco only fills to 75% which is around 3.6 when empty. I don't know if it's law or what, but I noticed that and commented on it. It's by the gallon only, not weight, although the amount they put in is computerized based on tare of tank. The link I posted above mentioned the 75%. As I said, I don't care. My tank that I bought at Costco has a gauge, and also my Weber Summit has a spring gauge and they both say the same. I'm very happy with the situation. Check out your local Costco's. I haven't yet found a listing of them, but the 3/4 here in S. NV all sell it.

Have not seen this at any Costco in the Bay Area I've been to. Hope they add this to some stores around me someday.

Santee Costco used to have propane but with the new fuel station build they no longer do.

Poway Costco still sells propane

Yep. Bummer to lose Santee, but the 36 pumps make it a bit more bearable. :-)

I have a couple tanks and plan on going up to Poway every few months to fill and get their car wash. Poway has a bigger selection and sometimes I find good stuff there I can't find in Santee.

Even if they had it around more in Cali, it’d probably be $3.50 anyway....we ain’t getting $1.90

I just filled mine at United Rentals....$4/gal

This. Noticeably heavier and cheaper than exchanges. I just avoid the place on weekends.

I get mine filled at the distributor. They fill all the way and it is $1.50 less than gas stations/U haul.

I refill the ones for my RV, BBQ and patio heater off the houses but propane tank. Can get the adapter online. No idea how much it is per gallon but has to be worth something not having to go anywhere.

edit:. FYI you need a liquid line off your main tank to do this.

No propane at the Costco near me. I don't use that much, but it's time to fill up a few tanks for the summer. I'll have to check out Uhaul prices near me.

Friends wife had 7 tanks filled. One was overfilled and it started leaking the over pressurized amount.

CO2 tanks are easy to overfill
And with propane

With less skilled folks and the heat of AZ, 3/4 full seems logical.

the new opd valves in use since 1996 make it impossible to overfil as the float will close off

(well there is one way to overfill it if you fill it then cool the tank then pump more in with the tank upside down) but only a suicidal pump jockey would do that

Legally, any propane tank can only be filled to 80% of its capacity. So, a regular BBQ cylinder has a capacity of 5 gallons. At its legal fill, it will take a maximum of 4.5 gallons. In summer, you will probably average between 4 to 4.2 gallons.

My local propane supplier in Woodland runs specials on Thursdays - $2.25/gallon. They are great. Just be patient as the lines can be long for a fill.

Prescott AZ Costco is $1.79 per gallon. Not much better than the Ford dealer and the RV dealer who both sell at $1.80 per gallon.
