Default LA City CCW question

So I have something going on in my life that I believe would qualify as exceptional good cause required for LA county. I plan to apply to the city soon, but I was just wondering if I need to take the CCW course before I apply or after? Also, any other tips for applying? I’ve read through the la city CCW thread and have gotten most of my questions answered but I’m still unclear on the class.

You should wait until the conditional approval to take the course. But taking the course doesn’t hurt as it is good material and concepts to know.

If you are applying with L.A.P.D., don't hold your breath. It is unlikely that they will approve you, no matter what your good cause is.

Yep, you can do it AFTER conditional acceptance, especially since acceptance has major hurdles.

Agreed with the above. In a city of 10+ million, can't be more than a few hundred non LEO, Judge, politician millionaire or superstar CCW's

Yea, My hopes aren’t high but I’m going to apply anyway. I figured this is the only situation I see myself being in that would ever qualify anyway so it’s worth a shot.

Wondering though, if I’m denied can I then apply to the sheriff or no?

Do what you gotta do. As long as you're in the right, the wordt that could happen is a misdemeanor for carrying unlicensed. Better to be judged, then 12 feet under.

Misdemeanor the first time, if the gun is registered in your name. The second time, it is a felony and you lose your gun rights forever, in every state.

OP, there is no good excuse in LA. But good luck with it. Worst that can happen is you get denied and then you have to answer ‘Yes’ to the ‘have you ever been denied’ question whenever and every time you apply somewhere else. I hope you have a foolproof good cause. Not something I would do for giggles or for the experience or exercise of it.
