Being in favor of open carry is a political must for DeSantis. Think of it. California is now shall issue open carry in over half of its counties (i.e., the ones less than 200,000). Florida completely prohibits open carry everywhere.

DeSantis and his Republican super majority can't do better than Newsom and his Democrat supermajority.

Not a good look.

FLORIDA

Some supporters feel permitless carry isn?t enough, and that Florida should move to open carry of firearms.

Gov. Ron DeSantis promised to sign a permitless carry bill. The item is set to make it to the floors of the House and Senate for a final vote.

Item ready for a vote in Senate and one more committee stop in the house. There is no time frame yet for a full vote.

Camping is also included in the OC exception.......still, even with that clearly stated some jurisdictions will still play the intimidation game. Been a couple of suits on the matter and if LE goes too far they do lose. Generally you know you have something of a problem when the LEO carries a heavy NY accent!

Default Montana Constitutional Carry Bill

Montana House Bill 551 introduced to amend Montana Constitution as follows:

The right of any person to keep or bear arms in defense of his own home, person, and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons."

https://www.bozemandailychronicle.co...8f8308561.html

It shows there's a meaningful difference between permitless carry and constitutional carry. Even though the legislature allowed for the concealed carry of guns without a permit, it couldn't mandate that state universities allow for concealed carry under the Montana Constitution. https://montanafreepress.org/2022/06...-campus-carry/

I'm all for these laws eliminating permit requirements, but even in states that have passed these laws more must be done. Specifically, their constitutions need to be amended so the right to carry concealed without a permit is embedded in them.

Excellent. That would truly be the finishing touch on "Constitutional Carry"

I wonder why it's "or" rather than and, which would seem to be more considtent with the Second Amendment, would it not?

Looks like Florida is off the list of Constitutional Carry. The author pulled open carry from the bill in fear of it not passing.. A super majority Republican legislation and Republican governor.. what a bunch of cucks.

That amendment was vile and needed to die, it included idiotic sections such as felony charges for not using a state approved holster. (The definition of which was conveniently not disclosed in the bill.) The fig leaf for the R author to hide behind is it was a bad cut-n-paste job and he didn't read it or some such BS.

Did it? Wow! Ok then.. I guess the logic is to get concealed carry with no permit, then later they can tack on open carry later on..

We did not lose our RKBA rights overnight and we are not going to regain them overnight. Slow, steady progress has been working, I know it sucks and rights delayed are rights denied, but if we can keep hitting singles and doubles we will continue to score runs and don't have to have Home Runs, however they are sweet to hit, like Bruen.

I sure hope the Florida legislature was smart enough to also include "Universal Recognition" of all other state permits and drop the non-resident permit nonsense in their Permitless carry bill......

No, they did not. But it appears that the permitless carry provisions apply to non residents, so long as you would not be disqualified for a permit, which is the same as for Florida residents. The bill is over 100 pages and I did not read all of it.

Last month, Matt Larosiere who is an attorney and Floridian went into detail about this bill in a nearly 20 minute video on his Fudd Busters channel.

He wrote in the description,
Quote:
While I'm happy to see the possibility of ditching the absolute requirement to have a carry permit in Florida, HB543 is a soft and very un-Floridian way of going about it.
Even if this is not good for Florida, it is good for the country in that a majority of states now have a permitless carry law in some form.

If you take into account any form of permitless carry (open or concealed), then 39 states have some form of it.

I?m guessing NE will be next.

As I understand it, it will no longer be required for non residents to conceal carry in Florida. You could still obtain one for reciprocity purposes though.

No.

(1) The SC Senate Judiciary committee Chairman Rankin is the hurdle; CC was rejected by S RINOs in previous sessions (term ends mid May)

(2) This year the version starting to move in the Senate is different from the CC bill passed in the House. If it passes the Senate it will take additional time to resolve their differences.

(3) whereas the unicameral NE legislature just has to pass one more time the same bill it already passed twice this term

That?s why I expect NE is next.

Unhappy SOUTH CAROLINA

SOUTH CAROLINA Senate version of CC bill passes out of subcommittee back to committee.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime...it/ar-AA19JXzn

Out of S subcommittee for committee debate & vote. If it passes then to full S for debate & vote. Then??? Resolution committee debate & vote? Then back to each chamber for debate & vote? Then to governor?

Will there be enough time for all of that???

They have another month before sine die, so yes they do.
But this looks like more shenanigans from the SC Senate. They sat on their own bill for several months now (which the NRA had to get amended BTW). The easy route would be to simply take up the House version and move that through instead.
I'm just smelling a rat here. I hope I'm wrong and with FL going this year I hope the pressure gets to the SC senate. But SLED and possibly the tourist lobby still have hold of a few of the gatekeepers who can single handedly derail this thing yet again.

The way FL's permit recognition worked was "You recognize us, we recognize you"
They should amend the statute to try to secure whatever reciprocity agreements they can, even though they went permitless. Some states still require an actual agreement and don't recognize permitless states as necessarily "recognizing" their permit.

This would help out FL resident travelers.

OREGON 2024 ballot measure: no mention of OC so it sounds like Constitutional Concealed Carry, like FL, because unlike FL they already have Constitutional Open Carry.
