There is not a single person on this thread who does not believe that shall issue should be the situation or better yet, Constitutional Carry. However, this is the real world, this is deep blue California and we in LA are in the heart of the leftist beast. So let us be realistic and take our victories and/or progress as they occur.

So, is you glass half full or half empty?

Sheriff Jim McDonnell issued 78 CCWs in 2018.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva issued 84 in 2019, 238 in 2020 and a total of 2085 by January 12, 2022 as documented in post #9508 by TheThreegs based on data regularly reported by Sheriff Villanueva in Instagram community meetings. That was 2085 issued out of 8605 applications with another 278 “in the hopper”.

https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...postcount=9508

A few posts later Lockdown updated his graph of the trends in post #9514.

https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...postcount=9514

So Sheriff Villanueva is political and a Democrat…..??

We had Trump in the White House for two years with McConnell as Senate Majority Leader and Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House. Please remind me how many 2A advances were made during that window of golden opportunity?

National Constitutional Carry or even a national shall issue CCW standard? Nope.

National CCW reciprocity? Nope.

Hearing Protection Act? Nope.

AV has made good, in fact exceeded, on his promise to increase CCWs by 400%, to the benefit of a growing number of citizens. People are picking up their permits every week.

That is a real track record in a deep blue county, whereas the Republicans did nothing in their last two year window of opportunity.

Now we have the upcoming Supreme Court ruling in the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. versus Bruen case to hang our hopes on next. But be prepared for it to be a less than overwhelming victory.

+2. While I now live in Nevada now, where they hand out Permits like cat house advertising cards to tourists on the Strip, be thankful any permits get issued in LA County. While I wished the system was first in, first out, GC Green, it is leaps and bounds better than it was a few years ago. I still have friends that live in LA County, they are not happy with the slow progress, but they are happy they at least have the opportunity to apply. Sometimes you need to let the boat continue it's course, work out the corrections later, rocking it isn't always a great idea.

Well, then move out of LA county if you feel that way. It should be shall issue around the board but it is what it is. It's still progress that we are getting issued....

This! Review the post above from the guy who applied in 2009 but was turned down. We've had a major shift in approach to CCW's in LA County in just the last year thanks to Villanueva. It's not everything we want and there's still work to be done, but we're making progress.

New member Mr. Paul, However underwhelming the victory will be, remember that the three SCOTUS Justices, Gorsuch, Cavanaugh and Barrett where gifted to you by President Donald J Trump. Thank you very much.

Default Picked up.....AZ, UT, or NV?

Hello folks,

Picked up few days ago. It's been a long journey that lasted 13 months.

Which non resident CCW is the easiest to get among AZ, UT, or NV? Doesn't one of them take the CA CCW into consideration so you don't have to take a separate CCW class again?

Not carrying yet as I am still waiting to receive my belt & holster. Didn't anticipate picking up so quickly at the end so I wasn't prepared. Should have ordered them sooner and carry inside home to get used to it.

Thank you in advance and good luck to all of you for the rest of your journeys.

Interviewed on 9/15/2021 at Chatsworth (Told to do Livescan & Training)
Sent the training cert on 10/11/2021 (Received email to send it when I am authorized to continue to firearm training)
Received email on 12/9/2021 to resend the GC (Yellow)
Called on 05/12/2022 for status (Deputy put me on hold for 10 min looking for my file then asked me to send the training cert again. Received confirmation email right away)
Received the call to pickup on 05/16/2022
Picked up on 05/18/2022 at Monterey Park station (The approval letter was dated 03/22/2022 so looks like my file was stuck somewhere until the deputy found it. The license has the issue date of 05/18/2022)

Hey Sergeantc,

I did sign up with USCCA back in October of 2021 when I did my firearms training as the insurance is not only for carrying but home defense as well. But with the policy change with USCCA, I will look into other carriers when the policy ends in October this year.

Apply with Arizona, Utah and Florida...don't bother with Nevada..since Arizona and Utah covers Nevada...go for all three..your live California firearms training certificate and qualification sheet covers the live fire training requirements in Arizona, Utah and Florida...just fill out the application..fill out the finger print cards and pay the state fees..you don't have to take anymore training classes. All 3 are very easy to apply for too ..

Congratulations on getting your permit!

I did my Florida app online and uploaded all the docs easily, then it asked for fingerprint cards, so now need to find a LE agency that still does it. (Santa Clarita no longer does) So make sure to get enough cards done for each State you are applying to.

I believe there were 3 of us that I saw on here who did our Live Scan on March 9 and we all cleared Firearms on May 18. Yours should be done soon. Hopefully we get the proceed to training e-mail sooner rather than later.

Congratulations on getting your permit!
UT requires a BCI approved instructor to sign you off, unlike FL an AZ, which will accept your CA CCW training.

AZ is the easiest of the 3 (does not require prints rolled by LEA).

Good info to know....I applied for Utah several years ago ..and forgot that..you had to apply with a Utah certified instructor..so Arizona first, Florida second, Utah third.

Yes, back in the second year of Trump’s administration, when national reciprocity was proposed, I took Utah’s course as a possible back door to CA licensing. It was a four hour class with no range time required. Don’t know if that is still the case, but there was a guy in Burbank who put the courses on regularly. If I recall, it was put on by Shield Personal Safety Training. Have to renew next year along with my LA CCW…..

Some good news for all of you still hoping to clear Firearms. They do so on the weekends too! Mine cleared on a Saturday and the above quoted poster on a Sunday!

Good Luck!

CCW Safe seems the way. Or as one poster says, get CCW Safe and USCCA.

Here's the thread and the Comparison chart: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...mparison+chart

Thanks Electro, is it true that if you lose a lawsuit or trial you have to payback CCW safe? On the CCW coverage comparison chart it states that they do not cover ongoing attorney fees, I wonder what that means exactly.

CCWSAFE states, “NO REIMBURSEMENT AND NO RECOUPMENT NO MATTER THE OUTCOME!”

Hey, congratulations on the interview and update and on posting a signature block.

Please add your GC to the signature to give us some context. Thanks! See the first page or so of this thread for more on the GC color scheme used here.

Do we know the percentage of applications the LASD is approving vs. denying? I think I recall that about a year ago the percentage of approvals was about 20-25%, with 75-80% denials. Am I remembering correctly? And is that about what the percentage remains more recently?
