Default Anybody else sleep with a knife under their pillow?

I do, a Buck 119 as a matter of fact.

Might sound a little unconventional but on Memorial Day of 2016 I woke up at about 3:00 a.m. when someone was trying to remove the screen from my bedroom window. The head of my bed is below the window sill and the window was slightly open so when it happened it scared the sh*t out of me. I rose, pulled the curtain back and there was just enough light that I was looking the guy in the face for a fraction of a second before he turned and ran to the back of my property. He was brown, slight of build and pretty sure he was from the southern latitudes. I do keep the safe open at night but decided that if I ever see an arm coming through my window I'm going to cut it.

Why bring a knife to a gunfight...

You know this is Calguns, right?

No, but when I was doing the EMT gig, Whenever we went to an old folks home, under the pillow is usually where the old people kept the knives.

Although I have that exact knife, I keep a super sharp bayonet on my nightstand.....as my 2nd choice.

Not judging, but I'm compelled to reply. As a former EMT, I have a strong aversion to blood borne illnesses. Someone breaking into your place at 3 a.m. is probably host to one or more nasty bugs that are easily transmitted via blood contact. Hepatitis and AIDS being the big 2.

Plus, if the knife gets stuck in the person then you just armed them with your knife and you have empty hands.

YMMV

My wife has been called a lot of things but a knife is not one of them. Plus having a CPAP puts enough hardware in the bed for anyone. But I bet I can wake up and get a .40 cal on target as fast as you can your knife.

We need that GIF of the headboard w/shotgun.

In my years as a paramedic, I carried a Sog knife clipped inside my tactical vest at all times. Never had to use it once thankfully.

Might as well put a Kukri next to the bed. It would be better than a knife and would be a better visual deterrent.

In addition to my usual sidearm, I have mounted on the wall two Cold Steel European hunting spears, just above the headboard and on either side of a Navajo blanket, in a verticle fashion. The spears are pushed into two steel clips that allow for easy removal. Because the bed faces an exterior exit door across the room, to deploy one of those spears and have it at the ready is an easy one-pull motion. However, I'd rather quietly wait with my firearm to see what played out.

Yes, but the rifle it's mounted on makes it uncomfortable sometimes to sleep.

This thread has provided me with many smiles. I keep a big Maglite flashlight within arm's reach under the bed. 9mm with streamlight on nightstand. My knives — which I love — stay in the kitchen.
