Default Almost there, just 3 more days!

Closed escrow on the place here in Southern California on Dec. 20. Negotiated a free rent back until the 15th of this month.

Got driver's licenses and registered all the vehicle in South Dakota. Set up the travel trailer in Hurricane, Utah 3 weeks ago. We will be considered full time travelers until we find our new home in Montana or who knows where.

Sold the safes and almost all of the furniture. Loading the trucks, Jeep and everything else going in enclosed trailer and Saturday we head back to Hurricane to start our new lives.

It feels really good to tell California F You!!!!!

Nice, congrats! Wish we can leave this enemy state and move back to America, job and large family right now. Hope in the future. Happy travels!

Congratulations. I did the same thing 3 years ago last month. I too had no property to go to.
I just came to the area in AZ that I wanted to live in and found a place within a month.
Never been happier, freer, and more relaxed in my life.

Congrats! Welcome to freedom. In Hurricane, you'll be near Warner Valley, which has Dinosaur Tracks State Park. Check it out!

There's nothing like the feeling you get when you can depart an oppressive, filthy, crime ridden, Constitutional lacking piece of you know what for a state. Congratulations for sure.

You also get to miss them doubling taxes and charging you a tax on your solar if you had it. Arizona for us has been like what a freedom loving patriot would expect from his country. I only wish we could have left fifteen years ago.

Be sure to properly notify CA DMV because they love to continue to charge registration fees for years after you leave the state. Then they add penalties and use the Franchise Tax Board to collect their theft.

You have been officially warned.
CA SUCK can continue after you leave the state.

OH,
Congratulations!!!

To avoid ongoing California suckage, open new bank and checking account with a local bank or credit union.

Congratulations. I second the warning above about California franchise tax board and thier extortion. Many of friends who left and my brother had this issue. They fought them for years.

Care to elaborate? What exactly did they try to do to them?

Not that I don't believe you I just have a hard time understanding how that happens if you leave the State and do it correctly.

We made sure to send the DMV a letter in regards to all of our vehicles no longer being in the state. When I asked our local MVD she said they send a registration notification of change of state to the one you moved from.

But sending the letter is a good backup idea. There is also this:

We did not notify DMV when we left. We had no issues whatsoever with any CA state agencies after we left. Moved into our house in ID 09/20. Our old house sold 11/20. We did receive a letter or two about our registration being expired after our cars were registered here. I ignored them and had no other mail from them.

Open new bank account, close any ca bank accounts. Send ca dmv a statement of facts form re. moving. Contra costa county came after me for expired dog license fees (2 years worth) believe it or not. Old neighbors forwarded me the letter to my new out of state address since we are still friends and the new owners of my house gave it to them to forward. What a typical government piece of garbage experience trying to convince cococo animal services i had moved over two years prior out of their communist S hole county and state and they could eat a dick. They were threatening sending it to collections.

Typical dickheads.

California mailed me info as to truck registration...the truck carried valid Texas plates for the time I moved from TX to California, and then two years later after the we moved and the truck still had TX plates.

Not sure of their problem.

I read the rules sticky and noticed this from Kestryl.

"No mocking, insulting or taunting your fellow members who live in California."

I find that hilarious since I got a load of crap talking about leaving in OT!

Neeener, neener. Haha.

Congrats Dubster. I actually almost cried a bit the last of my three trips driving from SoCal to TN, I was happy to be gone from that tyranny... but jeeeeze, 50+ years makes a lot of memories.

I wish you the best in your new location, it's a shame it had to come to this.

We made it to our Travel Trailer in Hurricane, Utah. 2 RAM 3500 duallys loaded, one towing a 30 foot enclosed trailer with the majority of our belongings and the Jeep XJ. Wife drove her Tundra completely loaded as well. Perfect day for the trip. Transferred everything into either the trailer or our storage unit.

Absolutely beautiful here. Gonna sleep hard tonight.

I need to figure out how to post pictures and where to host them from.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes. It's the most stressful thing we've ever done in our lives. But California just got to be too much to take anymore.

Congrats Dubster! I moved to Reno and just sold my house last night. Signed the paperwork and escrow ends in 3 weeks. My current apartment lease ends this October so time to step up my search for a new home.

Settling in here in Hurricane and needed a couple new locks for a second storage unit.

Headed over to the local WalMart Supercenter. Biggest WalMart I've ever seen! Stocked with what I thought was anything you could ever need. Found the locks I wanted no problem.

Then I decided to head on over to Sporting Goods to get a fishing license. First thing I notice is they actually sell long guns. But then I notice nary a box of ammo on the shelves. Only empty shelves in the whole store. Heck I could fill those shelves with the ammo I've stockpiled. Clerk told me it flies off the shelves the minute they put it out.

I did get a fishing license.

Default Redcliffs Range

Hurricane is just down the road from one of the nicest range set ups I've seen. Pistol, rifle, shotgun, private bays... You'll use up some of that ammo stash there

We drove through there on an exploratory drive. Very nice looking place. I'll have to inquire about membership.

First things first. I'm going fishing!

Interesting question. We originally thought we would store our trailer someplace out of California while we looked for "THE" place to buy in Montana. After visiting Hurricane a couple times and realizing how much there is to do here we thought about living in the trailer here for a while. Didn't want to live in the trailer during winter in Montana!

Every RV Park we visited said they were booked solid for the season but I left contact information just in case. 2 days after we got back to Southern California I got a call from the manager at Zions Gate RV resort. They had a cancellation. We jumped on it. $525/month with full hookups, club house, indoor pool etc.....

Today is day 8 and we're loving every minute. Talking about staying for up to a year now. Bought a State Park annual pass today. I brought my Jeep XJ with me and gonna go talk to Matt at Winder towing about a place to work on it.

We are very happy we bought a bigger travel trailer than originally planned. Our kids and grandkids are coming to visit us for a week the middle of March.
