Sell it and buy one.
Some people want trench guns, some people want unmolested 1897s. Sell your unmolested 1897 to someone that will appreciate it for what it is and pick up a repro/copy/molested original/actual original trench gun.

Yes, but the 1897 barrel needs to be headspaced properly; they are not made to just swap barrels like more modern shotguns.
