Default How do I remove this staking?

I'm trying to change the stock on my Vepr12 but it looks like it was staked in there. I tried hammering the pin out but it's not coming out. Do I need to shave the stake out?

Never hammer. Always press.

So you are replacing the folder with another folder that will work with the hook and rear folder trunion?

I know some of these folders were imported after being Tac welded open into a fixed stock configuration.
The weld prevented the pin from being pushed from the bottom to out the top

The pins had a lip so gravity would not let them fall out while rifle was being shot.

If the folder is opening and closing smoothly (for an AK) try pressing from the bottom out towards the top

The pin should be concealed inside of the hinge loops.

Your photo shows the top side of the stock and the top edge of the pin. Were you trying to drive it from the top to the bottoms?

I freely admit I’m an idiot... so take all my ideas with a grain of sand

Here is a replacement 5.5mm pin. Shows how / why pin can only be driven 1 direction

I love this site. I had no idea anyone made a kit to attack to the factory folder trunion to convert to the AR platform.

But back to your problem

If the stock folds well, I would try adding Kroil or your penetrating oil of choice, heating it and allowing it to cool 2-3 times with a hair dryer or heat gun.

Fold the stock and open when hot to help oil creep

Then try pressing pin from bottom towards the top

Stubby punches in either 4mm or 5mm based upon your pin diameter and a heavy hammer might break it free.

If someone drunkenly peened the pin into the hinge, then you might need to remove 1mm from the top of the pin. A dremel with a carbide bit or diamond bit would be my preference over a drill bit.

VEPrs came in and seemed to be functional. Many S12’s were missing 1,2,3 or even all 4 gas ports- aka-the vodka guns

There could have been a bur on the pin or casting.

The video shows the center punch start method from the bottom of the hinge

I have watch that video before and it was informative but I don't think his was staked down.

I use a punch and a 15lb hammer to try to knock out the pin from the bottom but it wouldn't move.

Ill try the oil and heat gun method next and see if I can get some results.

Unless you know someone with a mill, or a good drill press with the ability to set it up, it's going to turn in to a hack job.

I bet I can push it right out.
I know how to safely apply large amounts of force with an air riveter.
