Assembled lower from out of state
I want to purchase an assembled lower from out of state and am receiving conflicting information from local FFL’s. It is a free state lower with a mag release, pistol grip and collapsible stock. I have heard anywhere from yes, it’s ok as is since not attached to upper to no, must be made California compliant. My question is what is the consensus? I don’t want to have it shipped only to have it shipped back to seller when it gets here and lose money. I know I can assemble my own, but I’m OCD that way.

Legally, no compliance is required for a complete AR lower without an upper attached. It is not a centerfire, semi-auto rifle. That being said, you will absolutely need to confirm with your CA dealer that they know this and don’t have a misunderstanding of its legality or have their own shop policy that is different. Sadly, not unusual for some dealers to have their own made up rules.
