Default AB-669 Firearms: unsafe handguns.(2021-2022)

Allows sworn county probation officers to purchase "unsafe" handguns for personal use.

Most of the exemptions say "purchase of a handgun for use as a service weapon" , but they are removing probation officers from this language.

All cops, including on duty, should be required to follow the same laws we are required to follow.

Interesting how a Law enacted for the safety of the "Public" from accidental discharges isn't equally mandatory for those that spend the most time armed in public and are able to wear their weapons even in schools. They also have the highest probability of dropping their duty weapon in a scuffle. If the law is true and effective, then these exemption endanger the public.

They pass a law last year which purported to put all officers under the same system.

So I guess the PO union is pushing back and wants their exemption back.

This.

As I've said in the past (although the state ironically changed their verbiage on this), how could one say they feel safe in the hands of law enforcement if they're allowed to purchase what the state deems as "unsafe handguns?"

I believe that if LE was told they can only have 3rd gen Glocks or newer handguns with things like chamber load indicators and magazine safety disconnects then the roster would have much more scrutiny and would have a little more limelight for its hypocrisy.

The roster has nothing to do with safety so all these arguments don't really mean anything.

The goal of the roster was to make guns more expensive and harder to obtain.

Mission accomplished.

You are correct, yes. There was a time early in the roster adoption however that the roster was all about "safety." I think once people started going into the same mindset as I mentioned earlier, the state shifted from the "safety" aspect to a "certification" instead.

Harder to argue a certification process moreso than a safety process.

Everytime a cop uses his gun in CA they, their department and the state should be sued for using an unsafe handgun

It was never about safety, it is only about further limiting the citizenry from owning firearms. It has been that way from the very beginning, make no mistake about that.
Wait until the legislature applies it to rifles and shotguns.

This is on Third reading which means they will vote on this soon.

They also edited this so the officers need to do live fire every three months instead of six months.
